Today we’d like to introduce you to Valencia Jenkins.
Hi Valencia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 2013 my life as I had known it changed drastically. I was indicted by the United States Government and didn’t know if I would ever see my family let alone the light of day again. I was always a hard worker and persistent in anything I did whether it was flipping burgers or selling lemonade. This uncertainty of not knowing where my life stand had me in a whirlwind.
Fast forward to 2016 when I was released from Federal Custody and had to start over. I had no money, no car, lost so called friends, yet I had all this knowledge of different trades in my mind. In College, I studied Healthcare and practiced working in this field for over a decade. Then I became interested in Real Estate and became versed in that field as well. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the monies to invest in anything I wanted to do at that time.
My oldest daughter was a Senior in High School and I couldn’t even afford to buy her prom photos. To this day, that eats me up. I couldn’t afford her to get her hair, nails or even a dress. I had way too much pride to even ask anyone for help because I felt judged. I felt as people looked at my past and judged me based off my mistakes. Poetry has always been my passion since I can remember. Being a published author had always been a dream of mine so in 2019, I decided to print my first book of Poetry called’ The Poetic Journee” Written by, Poetic Love (my stage name). It brought me so much joy to see my art be published on Amazon and Barnes and Noble!
I decided to study Dr. Sebastian and his Holistic Practices because I needed to learn how to mediate, relax and study a healthier diet. I ended up attending The Only Black Accredited Holistic Welles’s Academy where I learn Womb care. Ancient Chinese ear canceling, different herbs and their uses and so much more! That opened a lot of doors for me far as networking and learning even more methods of Holistic Practices.
With my love for writing, holistic wellness and women’s health, I knew I has to do something. With this I decided to work on opening up a Holistic Wellness Spa & Salon. I thought about my Grandmother’s and how influential they were in my life. Georgia Mae and Hattie Mae. This is when I decided to name my Spa Crown Mae Spa & Salon. I feel my Queens passed the Crown down to Mae(me) get it! I secured a business downtown Atlanta on Peachtree Road and unfortunately it fell through.
I was so discouraged then not even a week later, I stumbled up on the property @ 112 Stockbridge Road Jonesboro, Ga 30236.
It wasn’t my vision but for the price, it would do. I had to start somewhere. We acquired the property and got to work. My significant other worked day and night to paint, put in floors, build whatever I needed to get the Spa up and running! I was truly blessed!
July 31, 2021 was our Grand Opening. I made sure we have a whole different type of vibe when entering our location. We want you to feel the positive vibes throughout the whole Spa. Whether you’re getting a facial., makeup done or your hair, your guaranteed to love the energy we provide!!!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No most definitely not. My biggest challenge was transitioning back into a society that didn’t want to accept me as a felon. I had no money, credit wasn’t the best and I didn’t have business credit so acquiring any building was scarce to come by. I was growing from online yet, I was struggling to get a brick and mortar. Licensing, insurances, location, city all played a major factor when opening. I just took every hit as an opportunity to learn and grow!

Crown Mae Enterprises Inc is my umbrella for Crown Mae Spa & Salon. We are a Holistic Wellness Spa & Salon that provides quality pampering. We offer an ambiance that you can’t find anywhere else. We offer a variety of treatments not just for our Queen’s but our King’s as well.
What makes me proud about my brand is the fact that of the name! That name means everything to me because it has to do with two of the most selfless woman that I have ever known! With this name I offer love, loyalty, quality, and integrity!
We offer King and Queen packages that include: facials, foot detox, massages, make up application, Yon-Ee V-Steams, Dermal filler’s lip enhancement, body sculpting, waxing, holistic healing sessions. We also offer a vast variety of products in case you’re not able to come into the Spa and Salon; you can steam pamper yourself feel the same ambiance in the presence of your own home!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Surround yourself with positive and like-minded people. Networking is your best friend. Go to as many networking events as possible. Get advice from people who have been through what it is you are trying to accomplish. Be prepared to face reality and take constructive criticism. Listen to understand not to reply.
