Today we’d like to introduce you to Yanneisha Fung Chung.
Yanneisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been in some form of the beauty industry for twenty years. I started out pursuing makeup artistry. It was fun and I loved what I did, but I wanted to do more. I was tired of seeing women covering up their skin because of their blemishes. I wanted to help them improve the health of their skin, without covering it up. Of course, I’m not opposed to wearing makeup, but I am pro healthy skin. If the foundation is healthy, then whatever you build on top will be even more beautiful. After I was laid off my beauty consultation position, I didn’t really know what to do next, then a friend convinced me to go to esthetics school. When I graduated, I decided I wanted to do full body waxing, LOL! I don’t know what happened. I didn’t choose waxing, waxing chose me. I’ve been waxing ever since. I’m still skin conscious, just in a different way. After moving to Atlanta with my husband, I worked at a few waxing salons until I decided to take the big leap and start my own business. To say I was apprehensive, is an understatement, but when it’s time to go, you know it’s time to go. I was at my last place of employment for three years and they weren’t the happiest three years. I was losing my love for my profession and felt stagnant and unmotivated. There were no opportunities for growth within the company, so the only way up, was out. Although the decision was daunting, it was worth it. I have not looked back. It is hands down the best career decision I’ve ever made for myself.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting your own business is no easy feat, but honestly, the hardest part was just starting. Once you start, you learn as you go. I have taken continued education classes and business classes to be as successful as possible. When unexpected things happen, sometimes you must think on your feet. I’ve been tested, especially on the business side, but I think I’ve handled it well. I now understand why a team is important. As a solo entrepreneur, you are the employee, customer service, marketing, booking, accounting, etc. It can be overwhelming at times, but you must pace yourself. Give yourself grace and create a schedule that works best for you.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Waxing Beauty Suite?
Waxing Beauty Suite is a salon suite that specializes in full body waxing. We wax from the rooter to the tooter, no stone left unturned, LOL! Most waxing salons focus on the hair removal. We focus on the hair removal and the condition of the skin. Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe the statement, “no risk, no reward.” Everything comes with some form of risk. You have to trust that you’re taking the right steps, and you won’t know until you do it. The biggest risk I’ve taken was betting on myself and becoming an entrepreneur. I didn’t know what was going to happen. I was so concerned about getting clients, making enough money to pay the rent, having enough money to buy supplies. All of those concerns are no longer at the forefront of my mind. If you don’t take the risk, you won’t see the reward. The biggest reward for me is the opportunity to create a schedule that gives me time with my family.
