Today we’d like to introduce you to Bekah Marie Knott.
Hi Bekah Marie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began writing music and performing in church at a young age. I always enjoyed being a part of a band. I pursued a degree in music on a collegiate choir scholarship and ended up with a performance degree with a minor in marketing. From there I started playing live solo and duo acoustic gigs as well as some originals mixed in. I also taught voice lessons for about two years.
As a band, we played out a lot over 2022 and decided to take 2023 to revamp our vision as well as pursue a virtual performance basis. We are building our following through releasing our ep Crossroads through the orchard with Sony that we tracked last year with Scott K. and mastered with red tuxedo. We hope to pursue more live shows at the end of 2023 and tour most of 2024!
For now catch us online via website (www.bekahmariemusic.com), Instagram (bekahmarieband), or Facebook (bekahmarie13)! Thanks for listening on all major streaming platforms for now as well as some foreign radio stations (Australia picked us up on an underground channel). We will be sending our music to more college radio stations throughout their release year!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not, it’s been challenging. I think that’s what makes great music. Perseverance, never giving up and trying new alternatives definitely help us to thrive.
Bekah has dealt with a lot of personal challenges such as bipolar 1 disorder coupled with addiction and a handful of other diagnoses. She is currently stable and thriving due to hard internal work with doctors, therapists, and a twelve-step program.
There have also been physical challenges for her such as performance injuries like her herniated cervical disc in 2022 that stopped her from playing solo acoustic gigs.
This is when I started pursuing full-band shows. The music lives in me and is such a part of me that without it I don’t feel purpose in life. Performing is a viral aspect of this lifestyle. Fans really become friends and family in the experience of live performance.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I chose to talk about the business aspect here because it’s important as an artist to remember the many hats you have to wear to be successful. It’s never just about the art or you’d be living in a box playing violin for tips outside a Kroger I feel like. Speculation only!
There are avenues strictly for the love of art. Time and place but, in order to achieve our dreams and realistic goals of rebranding, marketing music, sync licensing, and continuing to perform/tour/live stream, we must all work. We all have a role to play. Whether that be creating, booking, tracking, or managing the business.
Constant perseverance and determination to be diligent to the game plan is essential and this is only achieved by constant clear communication!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Glimmers, Couch- bands that help us stay on the grind with a fresh perspective and continued motivation.
Entrepreneurs who are dedicated to seeing a vision prosper.
People, friends/fans, critics, and family! Without input, we don’t know how effective we are.
All the players I’ve had, even the hard to work with peeps, built me up. The great ones made me who I am becoming.
