Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Hayes.
Hi Brittney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well first off my name is Brittney Hayes and I’m from Decatur,GA and have been a entrepreneur for the past 4 years. I started my business in October of 2019 after being a self-taught makeup artist for five years. Prior to the start up of my business I moved away from GA, my home state for a while and relocated to Key West, FL. This is where I was able to clear my mind being away from the bustling city and I began to focus on my dream I had placed in the back of my mind for so long because starting a makeup brand had been a dream of mine for a while but I never knew where to start. Although N.Y.A.Q did not get the start that I had been planning, I know I had to start somewhere. Six years ago, I knew what I wanted to do but I didn’t know how to do it, but networking with the right people and like-minded people allowed me to transform my vision into reality.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
This journey has not been a smooth road at all. With my business currently being self-funded, it’s been on a slow and steady start. I have spent thousands in marketing, equipment, etc. Even so I am grateful for this journey and knew when I started it that it wouldn’t be easy. Seeing other companies and other makeup brands takeoff instantly had me second-guessing my decision to start and keep going but I didn’t let those thoughts get the best of me because I love what I do and I refuse to give up on myself and my brand.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about N.Y.A.Q Cosmetics?
N.Y.A.Q Cosmetics stand for Not Your Average Queen Cosmetics. When I started my brand my main focus has been to offer vegan and cruelty-free makeup products and to encourage women to step outside the box, not forming to society standards of what we should wear or look like when we want to go out. It’s ok to do bold makeup looks and have fun with your makeup, show your artistic side, rock gold teeth with a bold lipstick, etc. without being called “ghetto” or “ratchet” My makeup brand is still growing and will soon have many more options. My products are quality and affordable.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory would be the yearly family trips to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. This was big to me because my dad worked a lot so having that time with him, my mom and siblings was EVERYTHING. Sometimes my aunt would come along she was really like my second mom (she has passed on now) and make the trip even better! These trips lasted for a while until the company my father worked for changed management and then they stopped, but all in all was definitely amazing while they lasted.
