Today we’d like to introduce you to Jahleel Muhammad.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Publicly known as Dj Jso, I am a Producer, DJ and Radio Host at PhillyCam on 106.5 FM. I started my career in radio co-hosting The Mic back in 2019. However, I had a background in sound engineering and beat production years before I got introduced to radio & media. I had also been working behind scenes supporting underground talent with events promotions. After a year of production and development I was certified by PhillyCam in broadcasting and we were able to expand our show from 1 hour to 2 hours and dedicated the 2nd hour to playing indie and community artist’s music. In order to make that happen, I had to advance as a producer and sound engineer and add Disk Jocky to my set of skills. So I trained under a local dj I knew who could teach me the basics to get started.
Once I got the basics, I put myself out there and went straight to spinning on air. In addition to the new hour, we added a corresponding podcast to our show for listeners who may have missed the live 106.5 FM feed. This podcast would house all of our former broadcasted episodes for listeners to enjoy in their free time. With the hardship of COVID 19 striking the nation, it became hard to produce content so we partnered with other organizations like Rec Philly to continue hosting guests interviews while during the pandemic and coalitiondjsphilly to expand The Mic’s operations and influence. Today I am leading Hiphop & RNB DJ for our station WPPM 106.5 FM, member of Coalitiondjs a national DJ organization designed to help Indie artists blow up go platinum and become superstars, and an active member at RecPhilly a space for creatives. My Platform The Mic is now a licensed business “THE MIC RADIO & MEDIA LLC. & we offer promotional services to help amplify client’s audience and increase attention and exposure. We also run Media coverage events & host some of our own events to spike community engagement. All services are available via our website Themic1065.com
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to success has certainly not been smooth and certainly isn’t over either. Early in our production, we were put on probation by the FCC and almost lost our spot on air due to guests being vulgar on air. So it was certainly a challenge to get guess to change or adjust the way they would normally speak in order to be on the show. Furthermore, once we were in the midst of the pandemic it was hard to even get a guess to interview because of studio restrictions. It was literally our determination not to quit and to always find a way that kept us going. Believe me, we made sacrifices to keep THE MIC active because we knew the value it holds and will be to the industry.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Mic Radio and Media LLC. Is the media company attached to our Show “The Mic 106.5” designed to provide pro-level promotion campaigns via radio, podcasting & blogging; music commentary, playlists, publishing and more.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice for networking is be as genuine and transparent as possible. Introduce yourself to everyone don’t assume people know you because you’re popular. Part of networking is humility most people you will want to work with will be the same level or bigger than you so treat everyone with a genuine level of respect. Lastly, always trade phone numbers or social media and send a quick text immediately saying who you are again and that it was nice meeting them this helps the person remember you.
