Inspiring Conversations with Kemuel Browne of FlyYoungIntellectual

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kemuel Browne.

Hi Kemuel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Thank you for having me. I was born and raised on St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Growing up, I was super active in extracurricular activities from church, to sports, and music.

Being classically trained on piano at age six, I took a strong liking to and was drawn in by the science of music. I became a Musical Director at a very early age and didn’t know that it was preparing me for a professional career in music. From there, moving to the states and seeing that I could do what I love AND get paid for it on a full-time basis, resulted in me taking the craft even more seriously.

I sought like-minded seasoned individuals who took me under their wings, taught me the business side of being a professional musician, as well as how to properly prepare, while continuing to hone my leadership skills as a musical director. Multiple tours across Europe and the U.S. revealed ‘behind the scene’ lessons that would prepare me for management consulting.

Those qualities aided me in my eventual move to Atlanta for bigger opportunities. That’s when I started looking for other ways to utilize my gifts and skill sets, thus the start of Fly Young Intellectual, LLC.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The smooth road in life is really non-existent. I experienced a lot of twists and turns on the journey. There were times where I was a young 20-something year old seeking his next gig opportunity. These times had me at a crossroads determining if I should finish school or continue full-time with music because rent was due. At the end of the day, I had to figure out creative ways to get the rent paid.

I realized over time that those tough times aided dramatically in my character development, as well as resilience and persistence. I also learned to appreciate the journey because there is no true final destination, all we have is our everyday experience and it’s up to us to find the beauty in the ongoing journey.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The pandemic brought about so many insights and lessons. One thing that stood out for me was the need to identify what is truly important to you. In the rat race and fast pace of life, we bring along a lot of baggage. Most times we don’t take the time to properly inventory and analyze which baggage is worth leaving behind or carrying with us. The downtime of the pandemic allowed me to really do that at a high level. It also taught me that time is our ONLY luxury. The amount of time we waste or don’t account for holds us back and prevents us from truly attaining the things we deserve.
