Inspiring Conversations with Kimberly Robinson of K&M Xtreme Clean

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Robinson.

Hi Kimberly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am from Hinesville Georgia, located about 50miles from Savannah. I started my journey of entrepreneurship in 2017. I am the proud owner of K&M Xtreme Clean, LLC. Starting my own cleaning business was something that I wanted to do because it came to me so easily. It is something that I truly enjoy. Although the path of entrepreneurship is not an easy one, I continued to push myself along the way. Not long after committing to owning my own business, I started to doubt whether a business was something I should pursue. That was due to a lack of business and not really having the self-confidence in whether I would be successful. During that period of my journey, I focused on doing the research on what it really takes to own a business. All I knew was I wanted to be an Entrepreneur but didn’t really have the knowledge to know what all that entailed. This was not something I went to school for, so I wasn’t prepared. I began by focusing on building not just a cleaning business but a brand. Something that would stick out. So, I started a Facebook Business page and educated myself on the importance of networking and building relationships. I joined my local Chamber and began developing relationships that has brought my business to places I would have never imagined. While networking and meeting other business owners, they began to pour knowledge into me that I was looking for and so desperately seeking. That was from taxes to insurance or just the guidance and support when I needed it. I sometimes pinch myself when I realize I am operating a successful business in a city I spent my entire life in. Having a supportive team and family has played a major part in this journey as well, without them none of this would be possible.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road would be the last word I would use to describe what it takes to run a business. Right now, one of the current struggles is trying to keep a full staff. Although I know it is a struggle that all small business is facing right now, it’s still one of the main struggles. We are doing our best to combat that by offering incentives and a lot of all-nights on me as the owner. When we fall short of staff, I don’t mind stepping in to make sure the job gets done. Another struggle right now is this inflation that everyone is facing right now. The cost of everything has tripled and that includes cleaning supplies, which has been on the rise since Covid began. Long nights and a lot of hard work has gone into this business, and we faced many other struggles. But like those, we pushed our way through and will do the same with the others we are currently facing. Feeling stagnant is something that as a business owner, I am personally struggling with. So, I’m always planning new was to keep this empire going. I am not only running a cleaning business, but I also have my own Green Solutions Cleaning Products. So, just trying to find balance in it all can sometimes be a struggle as well.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people don’t know that I come from a single-parent household. My mother raised five kids by herself and worked several jobs to support me and my siblings. I believe she has been the example of where I get my work ethic. She raised me to know it’s okay to hear the no’s but to not stop until I get the yes!
