Inspiring Conversations with Letitia Dorsey of Becoming Excellent. BE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Letitia Dorsey.

Hi Letitia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in a small suburb on the edge of Detroit, I started out thinking that I had some superpower that no one could help me understand. I mean, I felt it in the depth of my very being. But over time, I let that “KNOWING” be replaced by what others thought of me & said I needed to be. I struggled bad with low self-esteem and self-image.

I went off to Spelman College, initially as a Pre Med Biology major, because I thought I wanted to be a Doctor. I ended up graduating with a B.A. in Psychology and subsequently became involved in the Education field.

I absolutely loved teaching! I found myself drawn to what society considered the lowest on the totem pole, the “cast-aways” if you will, and taught Special Education severely emotionally behavior students. But I realized in that work of over 20 years that my original understanding of myself was TRUE! I DID possess a superpower! In my working with the disenfranchised youth, I saw myself, I identified with their internal struggles of self-esteem and self-identity. I began to see how most people are not TAUGHT HOW to see themselves CLEARLY. How past experiences and traumas CLOUD our TRUE versions of ourselves. But with the right “coaching”, one could properly “see” themselves and their PURPOSE! It became clear, and on this seemingly long journey, I became a Certified Life Coach.

I consider myself a professional encourager. I have a gifting to SEE people for their truest self and help them see it for themselves. And I enjoy every moment of it!

Everyone brings something to the table of life, and I want to be the person that helps people uncover/discover what those purposes are, so they may BE the best versions of themselves!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
HA! Is there a smooth road??? I have met a myriad of obstacles, from the internal ones of not feeling worthy ( which plagues a lot of people) to imposter syndrome, not feeling qualified to “take up space”.

Post graduation, I had no idea that I would ever struggle with economics because I didn’t grow up with those issues. But I have had an opportunity to experience all levels of struggle, but I now see that it helps me identify with clients of the economic spectrum.

I feel that I have experienced struggles of all kinds, but it makes me empathetic and compassionate to the Human condition.

As you know, we’re big fans of Becoming Excellent. BE. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am currently a certified Life Coach that specializes in helping people discover the magic in themselves. I am also well adept in helping people in understanding their relationships.

My approach comes from an extensive knowledge from being a teacher with a background in psychology. What sets me apart is my intuitive approach with my clients. I lean into that extensively, and it serves me in helping my clients get to the answer they need for themselves.

These quotes speak to some of these strengths:

“One of the most powerful aspects about your sessions with Letitia is her ability to lead you into honesty. Through probing questions and non-judgmental inquiry, she has the uncanny gift of helping you get to the roots of disappointments in your life and create tools to manage personal emotions, expectations and experiences. After each session, you are left with a greater understanding of yourself and the journey of healing you’re on.”

“Letitia Dorsey’s rich background has fostered a most deep and abiding appreciation and understanding of relationships of all kinds.  She clearly understands and works from the premise that relationships are the true wealth and prosperity of a fulfilling life.  With this understanding, she assists others in finding and cultivating that wealth.”

I am very proud that I am in partnership with a local middle school in Clayton Co. I conduct a once a week girls empowerment group called Goddess Goals.

The readers need to know that I am currently accepting new clients. I give a free 15 min assessment.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Mentors are in abundance, honestly. There are people everywhere that would be willing to share their experiences with others. I would suggest that whatever you want to know more about, just ask. All someone can say is yes or no. If someone says no, go to the next person.

I have no problems with asking anybody anything.
