Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Johnson.
Tyler, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m from Milwaukee Wisconsin. I go by Trjko. I moved to Atlanta a year ago February 1, 2022 I’ve been doing hair for four years now. I am a self-taught style but I’ve been playing with her literally all my life. I went from working at McDonald’s for four years straight during high school. I quit right when I graduated and started practicing hair. I just knew it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life or at least for the rest of my working years because doing hair really doesn’t feel like a job to me it’s really like therapeutic. I just always have loved seeing people happy so it’s like a big thing for me to always make my clients happy. When I leave my chair when I first started working in the shop in 2020 it was my cousin’s shop and that’s when it all became real to me people start noticing me more start noticing my potential more. I was literally in the shop from 7 AM till at least 4 or 5 am every day I’m a big workaholic so for about a year I was working at the shop straight nonstop sun up to sundown. Late 2021 was around August or September I started traveling back-and-forth from Atlanta to Milwaukee just to start building up my clientele in Atlanta because I knew I needed to move out of Wisconsin to become something bigger. I would stay in Airbnb pay like $2500 a month and do hair outta the Airbnb finally February 1, 2022. I feel comfortable enough to move because I started to actually gain clientele so I packed up and drove 12 hours to ATL and everything literally changed for me like the life in Atlanta was so much different than life back in Wisconsin. I started gotta get paid just a post people’s products started to get pay just to make a videos for people. I started meeting celebrity makeup artists on video sets with upcoming artists who started introducing me to other celebrities that’s how I got the chance to go on tour with Teyana Taylor one of the best times ever had in my life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road wasn’t very smooth there’s always downs in order to move up you have to take three steps backward in order to move forward one step, A big struggle would be trying to put myself out there I was never like one of those people who like to have the attention but that attention always followed another trying to keep up with a steady income with no actual paying job in a different state would be like the biggest struggle but in all honesty, I feel like it’s all worth it because if there’s no struggle you want to appreciate it when you actually start to make it I will say another struggle will be trying to keep up with the lifestyle and not even trying to keep up really just getting used to the new lifestyle but there are times where I go back home just to get grounded again and remember what I moved to Atl for in the first place so I won’t lose sight of the big picture.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
