Life and Work with Bianca Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Williams.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My hair journey started when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. My mom, Barbara Cliett was the first to show me the light!! Lol! She taught me my very 1st braid using one of my dolls, a Cabbage Patch Kid. I will forever be grateful for her! Just for starting my passion, I am forever indebted to her. FREE HAIRSTYLES FOR LIFE MOM! I went from braiding doll’s hair to practicing on my little sister Alexis’s hair, to now being a Licensed Master Cosmetologist.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If I said that this journey was easy, I would be lying. A degree that suppose to only take two years took me almost six years to complete. After losing my dad 10 days after turning 18, hair was one of the things that kept me afloat. A year later, I enrolled in a technical college in my hometown, Macon Ga. Started my hair journey not expecting life to hit. I started working as a daycare teacher and doing hair in my kitchen to make extra money. After a while, I felt like my passion was leaving because life was happening. I started this cycle of taking breaks from school. That lasted a while. I became pregnant in early 2009… really!! After finding out about a baby on the way, I cared less about going to school and more about situations that brought more struggles. After having my beautiful baby girl, I knew I needed to finish this degree for me and my child. After meeting my amazingly handsome husband who became my biggest supporter, he encouraged me that this cycle had to end. He pushed me to finish school. He always told me that he saw more and knew the passion that I had for hair. After we married in 2012, I received two certificates. One: my marriage license and the other: my MASTER COSMETOLOGY LICENSE! One thing I will always share and scream to the top of my lungs to anyone is to never give up!

Tell us about your business. What do you do, what do you specialize in?
I am a Master Cosmetologist that now serves out of my home. I really don’t have a preference of styles but I mostly specialize in crochet styles and natural hair care. I’m most proud of the love and compassion I have for my clients. Also, grateful for their love and respect.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well-positioned for?
There are many opportunities for women, we just have to be hungry for it. Other than being mothers, wives, sisters, and helpers we are strong. We are built for the struggles. Any obstacles that have come my way, I fought through them just like I have seen my mom and other close women in my life fight through them. My mom raised me and my sister while working in the day and going to school at night and she did a hell of a job. Hearing stories on how my mother in law raised my husband to be the amazing man that he is today while being a single, working woman goes to show that woman can be and do anything!
