Life and Work with Brittany Wright

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Wright.

Brittany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hello, I’m a wife and a mother to two awesome boys. I’ve always had a passion for traveling and helping others with their travel needs, but after begin diagnosed with Lupus in 2012 that all changed. Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs. My body had chosen to attack my kidneys. On February 2, 2012, I was admitted to the hospital with stage 4 kidney failure. I would spend the next two weeks getting all types of tests and procedures done.

I was finally diagnosed with Lupus on October 1, 2012. I spent the next 6 months doing chemotherapy. This was to help slow do my immune system. Since then, I have battled numerous health conditions. Even with all that, I was determined to not let Lupus slow me down. That’s when I had the idea for The Lupie Traveler. I show others with and without chronic illnesses that they can still enjoy traveling (life) with a little planning. Battling an incurable disease has been hard, but I’m just happy that I’m still able to inspire others to see the world.

Can you talk to us a bit more about the struggles and challenges you are facing and have had to overcome.
I’ve had some trying times in my life, but trails and tribulations build character. By the time I was 34, I had battled stage 4 kidney failure, 3 blood clots, hypertension, and depression. Some days, I just want to lay in bed and sleep the day away. I try to understand how one could keep going after all I have been through. I try to focus on the positive aspects of my life. I would tell young women that hard times will come, but it’s how you react to those hard times. Never make a permanent decision about a temporary problem. Life is about seeing the glass half full.

Please tell us about BeWrightBack (Apparel).

I share travel tips and tricks on my blog. I also help others plan their dream vacations. I often cater to those with disabilities.

BeWrightBack Apparel:

My apparel is meant to be comfy but still trendy.
It’s for the girl that’s always on the go, but she still wants to be stylish.
It’s for the girl that’s not feeling too well, but she doesn’t want the world to know.
I’m that girl, and I know there are many more like me!!

Our logo:
The Butterfly.
The BeWrightBack Butterfly is more than just our brand’s logo.
This butterfly represents so many of us battling Lupus.
The Butterfly is the mascot for us with Lupus.
The Butterfly rash is one of the first signs of lupus or a flare is about to occur.
If you take a closer look you can see our brand initials in the butterfly. BWB

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Yes, I grew up in a single-parent household. I spent a lot of my younger years between my mom and grandmother’s house. I wouldn’t say I had it hard growing up. My summers were fun and the Christmas tree was always full. My mom was working 3 or 4 jobs at a time to provide for us. The sight of seeing her struggle gave me the passion in life to push harder. It’s one thing about hard times; it will either make you or break you. I decided to make it work for me. I’m thankful for the hard times in my life. Without them, I wouldn’t be who I am today.
