Life and Work with Christina and Chef Chrissy Miller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina and Chef Chrissy Miller.

Meet Chef Chrissy, the thirty-year-old, native of Chicago. She has been preparing gourmet dishes for her family since she was eight years old. Chrissy continued to pursue her love of cooking and attended Chicago Vocational Career Academy. She received her Culinary License and became a Certified Food Manager. She furthered her education in food-service going to college at Washburne Culinary. Because of her expertise, Chrissy was immediately accepted into Walt Disney World for quick service as an internship for six months.
Chrissy was accepted to the National Restaurant Association Show, in partnership with Sara Lee in 2007 and 2008. For over five years, Chef Chrissy has worked in the hospitality industry from Head Line Chef and Kitchen Supervisor to catering large premier events. She also went back to her high school at Chicago Vocational Career Academy as an alumnus to work as a teacher’s assistant in food-service in 2016.

In 2016, Chef Chrissy established Cultivating Catering, an all-inclusive fusion food service company. Chef Chrissy has been capitalizing from social media and ascending in the food industry using her cooking abilities to turn food into art. Chef Chrissy created the brand with the intentions of enticing all five senses. Her assortment of visual creativity, the crackling crisp freshness you hear with every bite, the delightful mixtures of spices and seasonings in the aroma you smell, while delicately grasping velvety prepared pastries, and of course tasting the cultivating food.

After all of the greatness, Chef Chrissy wanted to start a family, she became pregnant in 2016 and lost the baby at six months in 2017 of February. She wanted to give up everything. It took a told on her for almost 6 months to a year, so she decided to keep going for her daughter Chrystian Jonaye. The journey had its down but Chef Chrissy has nowhere but to go up now.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a bumpy road from losing my baby, trying to work for others, being an entrepreneur, and outgrowing my kitchen. Never give up. When things are going wrong, it’s because God has other plans for you. He knows best. Pray and trust in Lord Jesus Christ. Keep pushing.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Cultivating Catering by Chef Chrissy – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in all foods. I’m really known for my chicken rolls. I had chicken rolls on Wednesdays. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come just from having great service and my food is great. I’ve never had a celebrity shout me out and someone who works for the bulls reached out to me to do an event on St. Patrick’s day to provide treats for them and I cried for that moment, I asked her I said ME?? I’m assuming I’m doing something right. What sets me apart from others is just me being me, and my service. I don’t compete, I actually would rather collaborate.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
It’s very hard to find a mentor. Most people have their own thing going on, and some o my want to help themselves. What has worked for me is collaborations that I’m working on now and people have been very receptive.
