Life & Work with Janae Miller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janae Miller.

Hi Janae, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started modeling on and off since 2016 at John Casablanca’s Center. I had no interest in Modeling because I really wanted to be an actress. I didn’t know how to walk in heels and I had no sense of fashion style. But everyone saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself. Months after being in JC, I started watching other models and getting advice from people that have been in the modeling industry for years. I took a chance and ended up liking it. Started watching YouTube videos and searching around social media for tips on how to become a better model.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely a struggle for me. Anywhere I went, I never felt like I fit in. I’ve always been socially awkward. I am very insecure about my looks. Especially my body. I gave up on myself and that was one of my biggest regrets as a model.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a model and a business owner. If I’m not in front of a camera or walking down the runway, I’m working on my skincare business. Planning to launch in 2021. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come. Stepping out of my comfort zone.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Love yourself. Be patient with yourself. Do your research, go out and network. Whatever it is that you want to do Build up your confidence and just go for it. Let go of that fear. Don’t ever give up. Starting out, I wish I knew how to deal with my anxiety and low self-esteem. I ended up giving on myself and I wouldn’t want the same to happen to anyone. Don’t let fear stand in your way.
