Today we’d like to introduce you to Joye Reshard.
Joye, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My love for the nail industry started as early as 12 years old. The garage is my 1st nail salon. I would do nails for my friends and family, all through high school. After graduating from college, I realized I wanted to take it seriously and decided to get my nail license. I worked at a couple of spas in Atlanta for several years. My clients, friends, and family encouraged me to start my own nail salon throughout these years. After having my daughter, I decided it was a perfect time. I had built clientele, I would be able to create a flexible schedule and unlimited income for my future.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Although I’ve been a nail tech for nine years, starting this business a little over two years ago has been both excited and frustrating. I have definitely bumped my head a few times. From trying to balance being a new mother and still giving my business 100%. I think what has helped me so far is – Starting. I almost didn’t start because I wouldn’t be able to work a lot in the beginning, due to my daughter not being in daycare. Then, I almost didn’t start because I couldn’t afford some huge space but I did it anyway. The space and the hours were not the images that I had in the head all these years of wanting my own nail salon but I’m so glad I just started. It ended up being a great move to start slow and small because the business did better than I thought the 1st six months. I was able to save and get a bigger space where I could give my clients the experience I really wanted them to have. She believed she could, so she did” has become my favorite quote.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Joye Did It Nail Studio – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Being a Nail Tech is fun & creative! I get to do what I love and meet new people! Some of my clients have become my closest friends. We pamper our clients with Manicures, Acrylic sets, Gel Extensions, and Pedicures while they enjoy fresh fruit and 90’s R&B. Recently, we have become the go-to place in Atlanta for “Apres Gel Extensions” a new soft gel system. This system is odorless, no drilling and last up to four weeks. It’s the perfect alternative to acrylic and you get a perfect set every time. We have clients that travel from out of state just to get this service. Each month, we feature and retail products from small businesses based here in Atlanta. Our clients love this! Since starting in 2017, I’ve had the opportunity to pamper celebrities such as Ashanti, Zonnique, Shekinah, Eva Marcille, Toya Bush-Harris, PlayBoi Carti, TrayBills, Scott Flansburg, etc. I had the opportunity to work with Majorie Harvey Foundation, local youth programs and appearances on Real Housewives of Atlanta.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
It doesn’t matter how many people are doing it. No one gets sees the dreams you dream. There is enough success, mone, etc. out here for us all. Just focus on your WHY. Start. Start small. Start scared, unsure, just Start. I think simply deciding to do it, brings more opportunities.
