Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay H.
Kay, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Every day in medical school, I would go into the bathroom in my dorm room, turn off the lights and cry. I was the epitome of stressed. I was overwhelmed and frustrated. I was ready to give up. Fast forward to the end of the semester and a 3.4 GPA, I was ready for a change. I could not continue living like that. I decided to go to grad school where I was able to fulfill my passion of teaching! From here is where I got the spark for Mrs.KayH. I really had no idea what I wanted Mrs.KayH to be and some days I wake up still very uncertain but one thing I know for certain is that I want to help students who have had that moment or are close to having that moment that I had in medical school.
We all joke about “adulting” but sometimes, -ish really hits the fan and you realize that no one is in control of your life except you. In college, I remember having mini breakdowns and feeling so overwhelmed with my finances, my future, and life in general. How are we expected to have our lives together at 18? I know I wasn’t equipped to be an adult at 18. Sometimes, now I feel like I am not ready to be an adult and I’m 26 (tragic sigh).
This is what I want to help eliminate for others. Mrs.KayH has been a way for me to share encouragement and inspiration to my “Darlings.” Each of my posts and videos on YouTube is mini-lessons, I wish I would have known about life, school and finances when I was in high school and college. Now, several years post-college and finishing up grad school (hopefully) I really want to help others make a smooth transition through the adulting phase. I have a passion for encouraging and uplifting others with Christian compassion. I can say from experience how hard it was to navigate college and I share FREE tips and one-on-one semester coaching sessions to help my Darlings get through this college adulting phase!
As a side note, I am also very passionate about entrepreneurship. Mrs.KayH is a labor of love, combining my passion for teaching with helping students truly take charge of their dreams and write their own check. With this in mind, I also do business and brand coaching as another way to teach students how to use what they learn in college to solve a problem and create a better future.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This was definitely not a smooth road. I began in college struggling to keep my GPA above a 3.0. I walked out during a final in college. My grandmother who was my best friend died right during my last final before graduation. I was rejected from medical school twice. Then I dropped out because I really didn’t like medicine and spent too many afternoons crying on the bathroom floor. This took my time away from studying so I had to stay up all night to make up for my melt-down sessions.
All this led me to academic life coaching, entrepreneurship, and brand building and it still is not easy.
But, it’s TOTALLY WORTH IT!
To all of you who are in school grinding towards your dreams, I just want to say: stay encouraged and keep a positive mindset.
There is power in your thoughts and if you limit yourself then you will never reach the great heights you were meant to reach! Also, if something is not working for you, let it go and move on. We are young, but that is no excuse to waste your time, talents and money. Be willing to adapt to your circumstances with a positive mind and with grace.
I promise you, all the late nights, tears, and feeling like it will never work WILL PAY OFF.
Why? Because you are chasing your dreams and vision for your life and there is always a blessing in that. The road is not easy, but it is worth it. Take a break, do some yoga, binge watch a Netflix show and then GET BACK TO WORK! Trust me you’ll be glad you stuck it out and finished school or worked on your brand!
Please tell us about Mrs.KayH.
I sort of went through this in an earlier question but there is always more to share! I probably should have previewed the questions so I wouldn’t repeat my answers.
I am primarily an academic life coach and I also specialize in brand and business development.
As an academic life coach, I help students be more confident and less stressed about school and college life. I love working with college students but I do work with high school students as well. My goal is to help students in all aspects of their life and my approach to academics is more holistic. I help students hone skills such as: time management, test taking tips, financial management/budgeting, friendships, effective study techniques, career planning and more.
I also help students create their brand. I work with many young adults who have a passion for creating a business and I work with them to reach those goals as well. Whether you are creating a clothing line, starting a music career or creating a coaching program, I help get you started or take things to the next level!
I am most proud of my ability to connect with so many students and share my passion for Christ through my work. I am different from most other coaches because I am not afraid to pray with and for my Darlings (clients). I offer compassion and a very empathetic approach to everything I do, this is what sets me apart and allows me to relate to everyone I meet. Also, because I am multi-passionate (I like a lot of different things: teaching, consulting, coaching, entrepreneurship, budgeting) I can really relate to other students because I understand how it feels to have a vision to do a lot of different things!
