Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelley Elliott and Kelsey Smith.
Kelley and Kelsey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We’re so fortunate in that we grew up in a house where our parents started our wellness education at an early age. Our mom is in nuclear medicine and our dad has a background in health education and coaching. We would talk over the dinner table about the GMO debate or world records being set by local runners. You know… the normal supper conversation. For us, being healthy wasn’t a choice; it was just our way of life.
Even though we are identical twins, we are very independent. For example, we went our separate ways in college. Kelley studied to become a personal trainer while getting her Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Behavior at The University of Georgia. Kelsey ran D1 track and cross country at Georgia State University, earning bachelor’s degrees in psychology and nutrition. She earned a master’s degree in nutrition and became a registered dietitian.
With such similar interests and careers, we have always wondered what it would look like to work together. Never did we imagine blogging being our creative outlet, highlighting our passions and experience. As a bonus, it gives us tons of excuses to talk, text, message and see other all of the time.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It certainly hasn’t been an easy road to maintaining our health and promoting it for others. There have been injuries, frustrations, feelings of doubt and so much more. Being a twin is one of the coolest things ever, but it’s not always easy. If we aren’t comparing ourselves, then someone else is. It’s tough to stand-up to people to make sure they acknowledge our differences because we aren’t the same person. The best advice we can give is that you can’t compare yourself to anyone else and you must understand that each person’s journey is completely different. Rejoice in your differences (and everyone’s differences around you) because that’s what makes everyone special, unique and perfect.
Please tell us about The Healthy Peaches.
We started The Healthy Peaches to deliver simple and accurate health information in a fun and entertaining way. Social media is amazing in that it immediately connects us with people with whom we can relate and share our experiences. One downside is that there is a lot of misinformation out there, so you could have hundreds of thousands of people following the wrong information because Susie X said so. What sets The Healthy Peaches apart is that we have the education and experience to back up what we are saying. Kelley is a corporate wellness consultant and NASM certified personal trainer. Kelsey is a registered dietitian with experience in adult, pediatric and sports nutrition. We have worked hard for our degrees, licenses, and certifications, and we are so proud of them. Trust is essential to our brand, so we only put out content that we can back up and believe in.
Who have you been inspired by?
Oh man! There are so many, but here are a few:
– Our mom and grandmothers: They are all a force to be reckoned with. They’ve battled it all and continue to serve as strong leaders in our families.
– Rachel Hollis: We love her story and her commitment to empowering women to continue to rise.
– Sarah Fennel: She’s one of the best food photographers in the business. Her work alone is inspiring, but we appreciate her commitment to growing her business and letting her social media audience in on the process.
From Kelsey – My current manager at work: Having a mentor at work has been a game changer for me. Not only do I have someone I can learn from, but I also know that there is someone looking out for my best interests. As a bonus, she’s fun, loves great food and drink, and is a cool mom. All the things I want to be.
From Kelley – My current manager at work: Struggling to find a balance between work and home life can be a struggle. But I’ve been so fortunate to have encouragement from an amazing woman that empowers me and challenges me to continually find my passion and excel in all areas of my life. I’m beyond thankful for her guidance, support and, most importantly, friendship.
