Today we’d like to introduce you to Traci Stafford, DC and Lisa Stafford-Johnson, DC.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Traci and Lisa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We are both sisters and business partners. We both attended Life University School of Chiropractic. It was a rigorous program and required many long days and late nights of studying and sacrifice. What motivated us to stay the course was a desire to help others and build a legacy of service. We knew that we wanted to have our own practice and our ultimate goal was to be able to provide affordable chiropractic care to as many people as we could. We envisioned a practice planted in the community that we absolutely love. We are honored to serve the community of South Atlanta.
We decided to become franchisees with The Joint Chiropractic because they have a sterling reputation for excellent health care, affordable prices for patients, and even more importantly, access and convenience of care. We noticed that there was a need for this model in the area of South Atlanta so it was an easy decision for us to partner with The Joint Chiropractic.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a business has definitely been a learning experience for both of us. It has been both challenging and rewarding. We have had to play not only the role of doctors but of business owners – learning everything from lease negotiation to doing payroll taxes. This has stretched us in many ways, but we feel grateful for the opportunity to experience this venture of small business ownership. We highly encourage other young women to take the leap, step out on faith and start businesses of their own. Our advice would be to cultivate good mentors and to thoroughly research business models like The Joint Chiropractic that have a proven track record of success.
Women make up half the population, yet in spite all of our gains, we remain underrepresented at every level of leadership. Gender stereotypes still exist and as women, we still face the issue of work-life balance. Even in the 21st century, the concept of leadership is strongly associated with being male. But barriers are meant to be broken! Every woman who decides to step out and go into business for herself has a share in destroying those barriers.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
As Doctors of Chiropractic, we treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to: back pain, neck pain, joint pain, headaches, sciatica, and arthritis. We practice a hands-on, drug- free approach to health care that includes extensive patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment. Chiropractors represent a primary care approach for the prevention, diagnosis and conservative management of back pain and spinal disorders that can often enable patients to reduce or avoid the need for surgery or other invasive procedures.
What sets us apart is that The Joint Chiropractic has a unique, patient-centered approach to chiropractic care. We are open seven days a week, evenings and weekends. All of our patients are walk-ins, so there is no need for appointments. The Joint Chiropractic model provides greater clinical efficiency, affordable care, patient satisfaction, and extended hours of operation that gives patients increased access to care.
