Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Gremillion.
Hi Amanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had my daughter in 2008 and developed severe postpartum OCD, Anxiety and depression. I did not get help until she was two years old. It almost ended my marriage and did end a couple of friendships. It strained my relationship with everyone and had me praying to not wake up, I did not want to live anymore. When my husband left, I finally got some help through my doctor, my parents, a therapist and other friends and family. My husband and I eventually worked things out. When I was recovering, I started journaling trying to go back and understand what happened and how. I eventually turned these into blogs and others online, some I knew and some complete strangers started private messaging me about how they had gone through the same or still were and how I made them feel less alone. I eventually turned these blogs into a book in 2012. In 2019, I revised the book and had it professionally edited and republished it under a new name.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been smooth at all, lol. My husband and some others were a little uncomfortable with how much private information I was sharing at first, but it was part of my healing and helped in healing others as well. I was tired of people not talking about it all and I felt that was why I went through it so long without others around me or myself realizing what was happening. I have probably put a little more money into my book and website at this point than I have made, but I have been able to donate a lot to charity and help a lot of people, so I continue anyways. It takes a lot of time and mental exhaustion to get no money in return, but it is rewarding and healing in other ways.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
www.justbuyheradress.com is my website, I have a book, blog and podcast mainly about parenting and mental health and it often addresses tough subjects with humor to make it easier for people to talk about it and hear about it.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I have found most of mine through family, friends or social media. I have done guest blogs on pages of other Authors I have known, and others have done guest blogs on my page, even some I don’t know who message me and ask because I have promoted this as an option on my page and social media. I also had a fellow author family member recommend a good editor to me and a couple of other authors I know answered questions for me and guided me.
