Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrell Hall.
Andrell, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I always knew that I would be in the creative industry growing up. My story is a creative journey, and I’ve had a plethora of experiences that have led to the formation of Design Amore Interiors, LLC. As a young girl, I often would attend museums, indulge in every art class, decorate my room and house with my mom and watch HGTV a ton. I believe I always had a creative ability and wanted to do something special with my talents. I have been blessed to have a great village of supporters (family and friends) behind me throughout my journey and very thankful for them.
I received a full-ride academic scholarship to study Interior Design/Sustainability at Bowling Green State University and while there, I decided to intern and study abroad in London, Italy and France in the summer of 2012. During that summer, I learned so much about design, art, and architecture. I was constantly immersed in new cultural aspects and found my passion. Once visiting and climbing a portion of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, I fell in love with those Parisian aesthetics.
Fast forward to graduation, I relocated to Atlanta, Georgia and decided after working for corporate three years that it was time to step out on faith and cultivate my own happiness. Design Amore Interiors was born, and the idea of the love of design (Amore) is French, and I thought that would commemorate how my passion for design and traveling began. I am therefore now referenced as Andrell The Traveling Designer because travel and worldwide inspiration are incorporated into every aspect of my design processes and lifestyle.
Numerous travel adventures, mission trips, large and small projects in various states have enabled me to take my next steps in the expansion of business in not only Interior Design but Event Design as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely been a rocky ride. I’ve been laid off from a corporate design job, dealt with racism and sexism in corporate America and have lost design contracts due to circumstances out of my control. I feel like every tough situation has made me level up. As a Designer, you are constantly a creative problem solver. Getting exposure in a new city as a Black female designer in a primarily Caucasian women-driven industry was tough, but I decided to beat the odds. I worked hard, sought mentors, had a launch party, attended networking events, vended at events and created my website and social media presence.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a residential and commercial interior designer and a newly added event designer. I specialize in curating functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces and venues for my clients. I have a specialization in sustainable and universal design. I am most proud of working along with my three talented sorority sisters, who also are designers to renovate Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated National Headquarters in Washington, DC, for two years. That commercial project was over 14,000 square feet and my largest thus far. What sets me apart from others is that I add travel flair to my projects for clients, I have sustainable practices in mind while designing, I am creativpreneur and Im a super twin mom to my angels Arieon and Ariella.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I most certainly have learned a ton. Business doesn’t sleep and champions adjust to change regardless of what’s going on in the world. I actually got more clients during the crisis due to more people being at home and working from their home offices. They wanted a facelift of their spaces and the demand required me to do virtual e design as a service. I had to turn down some clients during the pandemic due to delays of furniture shipping and to deliver my twins during maternity leave.
