Life & Work with Chris Hart

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Hart.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I found my love for music in my hometown of Shelby, NC. From hearing my mother singing in the kitchen while cooking growing up, other family members singing at church, I knew music was my love and calling. At first, I thought I would be a drummer. I played drums at church at a very young age and didn’t even try singing. One day I was at a choir rehearsal and the MD overheard me singing and called me out. That led to me being assigned to sing the following Sunday. I was like what’s happening?! I still remember the song til this day. The song was “Oh Happy Day” the Sister Act II version…. yeah, with the high part! Who knew that opportunity helped me discover another gift and passion, which is singing.

I eventually began pursuing a musical career at the age of 13. Learning how to record with various software, studying the greats such as Anita Baker, Tank, Isley Brothers, Jamie Foxx and Bobby V were my first steps. By 18 years old my ability to write, sing, engineer and arrange became evident to other engineers and music executives. After graduating from the Fayetteville State University in 2014, I moved to Atlanta, GA to move my career forward. I’ve worked with various independent artists and established great relationships in the music industry. This journey has been amazing so far and it has led to my highly anticipated debut single, “Healing” and EP 92′ in 2023. Greater is ahead!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been a smooth one. There were many times where I doubted the gift that God gave me. Could I really sing? How is this mix? Will “they” like this song? Am I leading worship correctly? All self-doubt that paralyzed me from being myself, releasing music and blocked creativity.

Moving to a big city like Atlanta from a small town in NC I didn’t have any connections or know-how when it came to the music business and singers circuit. This was tough for me because I saw a big dream in music without a plan or blueprint in front of me. In church we say…”But God” and truly I say here….but God made a way. I’m not close to where I want to be but the relationships, connections and people that I now know through recording/writing sessions and leading worship is nothing but God.

For anyone that has any obstacles standing in between them and their dream or calling, I would say to trust God and don’t give up. Both sound like clichés but I promise it’s not just sayings. Putting your trust in God will never be a wasted choice. God has the plan and He knows the end from the beginning so having a relationship with Him is key. Lastly, never give up. Even when the dream seems too far away, take it day by day and keep working the gift.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a singer, songwriter and producer. I own a music group called, The SVN Music, LLC which is the umbrella for my writings, music releases and studio. As an artist, I sing Christian R&B but I also write and work in various other genres. In 2023, I will be releasing my debut singles, “Healing” and “It Was You” with ending the year with my EP, 92′. I’m so excited for what’s to come.

I believe what sets me apart is truly my faith in God. My music is not just about creating catchy tunes or showcasing my vocal abilities, but it’s also about spreading a message of hope, love and inspiration to those who listen. Every song I write is grounded in my beliefs and my desire to connect with people on a deeper level. In addition to my faith, I also strive to create music that is authentic and relatable. I draw inspiration from real-life experiences and emotions and I aim to create music that speaks to the heart of the listener. Whether it’s a song about overcoming adversity, love, or finding strength in difficult times, I want my music to resonate with people and inspire.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
My upbringing was not bad at all. I went through things for sure. Things such as my real father not being in my life, my mom and stepfather’s divorce, family drama and traumas but I believe those things at the end of the day made me a better person. I learned, grew and in a way it kept me humble and hungry to keep going.

I will say something cool about my upbringing was my stepdad’s love for the oldies. I remember on Saturday mornings he would wake me up to go to the barbershop and on the way he would play Luther Vandross, Gap Band, Isley Brothers, Earth Wind and Fire, Frankie Beverly & Maze….I mean all the great old-school jam. At first, I was annoyed but over time it grew on me. Now, all you will hear in my car or while I am cleaning up at the house or just relaxing is the oldies or 90’s R&B.

My personality growing up? I was a jokester and still am. I will say that I was an introvert for sure. I kept to myself a lot but if you were in my circle or family, you saw the goofy, joking Chris.
