Life & Work with Courtney Gray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Gray.

Courtney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey started in Atlanta at R.N. Fickett Elementary school where I would have prolly not graduated if it wasn’t for my 5th grade teacher Mrs. Wilbourn. Major love for that lady. She turned my thinking around and told me to stay the course and find something you love doing. But the next step in my journey, my mom and dad moved out to the suburbs in Stockbridge, GA where then I attended Eagles Landing Middle School. Then I met Mrs. Tyson in 7th grade my drama teacher and that’s when I fell in love with acting! I did a puppet show and had the class rolling. That’s when I knew acting was my passion. Started with stage plays which will always be my first love. I would pick doing stage plays over film any day. Reason being once the curtain opens and those lights hit you. It’s go time ain’t no cut let’s do that again. You really get to live in the moment and feed off of the crowds reactions. But long story short. I auditioned for Hot Shot Kids which is now J Pervis. J Pervis really looked out for me and knew I had talent. They got my foot in the door. Got me some big auditions. And with every audition, I got better and finally booked my first principal role within like my first 50 auditions and I landed the role of Jamal on Tyler Perrys Meet The Browns. I did seven episodes of that and shortly after that, I booked the role for Revelation on Disney channel Let It Shine. I’ve done National commercials from as far as Walmart to Cartoon Network. I’ve really been on my grind to get back on the screen. I’m still doing my best to get my face out there in all ways possible.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Every actor or shall I say entertainer has moments where they ask themselves his this grind really worth it. The blood, sweat, tears and time we put in and the constant letdowns we get when we know we kill it in auditions or talent shows, etc. That really can discourage you but you got to stay the course cause it takes that one yes and that one person to see you.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Some would say my major attribute is making folks laugh which I do. But I love playing a dramatic character. The one that makes you think, the one that makes you cry, a character where I don’t even have to say much I can just sit there and say nothing and my facial expressions and body language speaks volumes on the camera. I’m most proud of my growth from where I started to where I am now. Because when I first started acting, I didn’t want the main role. I would take the supporting role over the lead role so I could really sit back and learn from the other actors around me and be a sponge but now. Let me get that lead for 500 Alex. What sets me apart from others in the game is that I know how to say no and stay grounded and stick to my morals. One thing about me I’m not just going to do just anything to get my face on the screen for a couple of dollars and a few fans.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck I believe in the most high and my work ethic. My talent speaks volumes. As long as I do what I have to do on my end. Everything with happen in due time. Whatever is supposed to happen in your life will happen as long as you learn from it good or bad.
