Life & Work with Influence Getem

Today we’d like to introduce you to Influence Getem.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I hale from the Inwood section of Manhattan (New York City), better known as (Dyckman). I was raised by the city and its various systems. I spent very few years with my mother and a few more with grandparents in the 80’s & 90’s. My childhood was horrible, but I turned it all around for the most part. I witnessed my grandfather murder my grandmother at the age of eight. Shortly afterward, I ended up in the system. I took to the arts, drawing, and writing verses at age 11, approximately. As I grew older, I took it more seriously, then started going to studios that were holes in the walls to get a feel for recording. Little did I know, I’d be recording songs with legends in Hip Hop in years to come. In 2010 I created my own logo to represent me (I’m A Problem). It quickly grew as merchandise flew off the shelves, so to speak. Now it’s all globalized instead of localized and all independently run by yours truly. I LLC’d my stage name and brand *Influence Getem* in 2012 to make it all official. I’ve managed to appear on some of the most incredible and legendary albums created within the past 20 years on the underground circuit. I’ve also helped several artists throughout the world gain notoriety as I graced the world with a platform on radio and had interviews and guests from all over the world. (The Unda Da Influence radio show). I’ve also acted with Hollywood actors such as “Shanit Lowery”, on the 6-time Emmy nominated show “Bronx SIU” which is streaming on Amazon Prime video. You can visit my IMDB actor profile to see the credits. Sciatic injuries took me out of commission for a bit, so I had to rehabilitate myself. I’m not ready for work again. I’m also currently still active in several of the beat producer’s projects that are out in stores on all platforms. I was also praised by “What’s Happening Now New York Magazine” in an article that was released on January 8th, 2023 for my achievements, as well. I’m extremely humble and appreciative for those who take to recognize any of my works in the industry. Sometimes or most of the time, being behind scenes doesn’t get you the flowers that are well deserved. You really don’t have to be a product of your environment. You can let the environment be a product of you.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The entire road was and still is the roughest it could all possibly be. People make things more difficult than they should be to begin with. If you let people, they’ll stop you from accomplishing anything while they accomplish everything.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I can act, write and record music, and design my own clothing and merchandise, etc. I also am a marketing expert and has built my own organic following throughout the years since the dawn of Myspace. I’m a successful black entrepreneur who’s pioneered ways to market online.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was heavily abused as a child, often battered with a 4×4 or weight belt by my father and grandfather, etc. and also mutilated often by burning and cutting of skin by friends of the family. Then I had to go outside and fight a block every day that didn’t like having black kids on it. I grew up in a Dominican area, which was difficult for black people in those times. So I wasn’t a happy child and didn’t care for people as a result. I had to learn to love since all I knew was pain.
