Life & Work with Kelli Ward

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelli Ward.

Hi Kelli, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a wife, mom, and a young Breast Cancer Survivor. My journey of becoming a Survivor On Purpose began June 2020. A biopsy was performed to remove a spot I had noticed months before. After the pathology report was sent back to my doctor, it was then confirmed that I was battling Breast Cancer. Months of living with the unknown and beginning my journey of defeating Breast Cancer, I started the Survivor On Purpose LLC clothing brand. On August 5th, 2020 a bilateral mastectomy was performed with immediate breast reconstruction. Through this journey, my family and friends helped me through, it was tough but I knew that God was taking me through the fire not come out burned. It was also a step I needed to take to strengthen my relationship with God. I am grateful for having to go through what I went through in order to beat breast cancer because it allowed me to meet some long-term friends as well. My mission for the Survivor On Purpose LLC clothing brand is to help inspire, motivate, and encourage all Breast Cancer Survivors to know that their stories are what makes them beautiful and the need for their stories to be heard. In addition, to the women who are battling Breast Cancer as we speak, you are still beautiful and the battle is already won. Survivor On Purpose LLC was also created for me to tell my testimony as a guide for the next person. As well as understanding that through my journey I was determined to survive and my purpose was to survive for not only myself but for my family and friends as well.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
After receiving the news that I was battling with breast cancer, I was devastated because I had recently gotten married a year before and my son was not a year old yet, but after praying and changing my mindset to be positive through this storm, I realized this was only a test God was allowing me to go through in order to share my testimony.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a high school science teacher in Bibb County – Macon, Georgia at Central High school. I have taught in Bibb County for the last four years. Before that, I taught at my alma mater Baldwin High School science as well. I have received a Bachelors degree from Georgia Southwestern in Americus, Georgia of Exercise Science. I have a Master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University in Science Education and in the process of obtaining my Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I am most proud of being a wife, mom, breast cancer survivor, and educator. I think what sets me apart is my personality and work ethic, I try to be the light in everyone’s life that I am surrounded by, I try to be the person that is a blessing to others as well.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
God ultimately deserves all the credit, if it was not for Him I would not be able to share my testimony. I have such a great support system that helped me through this journey and I am so grateful from it being many family members and friends, but to name a few, my parents – Darryl and Vanessa Morrow, my siblings – Renee Boddy, Candace Dantez, Elizabeth Emmanuel, and Edward Morrow, my husband- Jamoski Ward, my Godparents – James and late Sandra Wilson, my Godsister – Juana Dunn Davis, my father in law – Jerry Scott, friends – hairstylists TaSheria Fennelle, makeup artist Dymond Holsey, photographer Darrius and Amber Baker, Qualivia Cummings, Samantha McGhee, late Arnitra Pitts-Salter, Brittany Flanagan, my cousin business mentor- Jaleah Holsey, my pastor and First Lady James and Sonya Smith, and my doctors. Each person played a significant role in helping me through my journey and helping to build the Survivor On Purpose brand, if it was not for each one of them, I do not know how Survivor On Purpose could be able to be known about today.
