Today we’d like to introduce you to Lillimure.
Hi Lillimure, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello, I’m so excited to be featured on Voyage ATL once again!
Influenced by melodies of her multicultural upbringing, the New York-based singer, songwriter, and producer draws from introspective lyricism and pulsing grooves for when you want to run away and find yourself at the same time. Lillimure’s genre-bending sound can be described as pop with a heavy sensibility to musicianship influenced by sounds from R&B, jazz, and folk to the likes of John Mayer, Tom Misch, and Emily King.
I just graduated from the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU, and am so excited for my recently released single and music video“Selfish!” Back in February, I crowdfunded $2,100 for the making of its music video. With Choreographer Charlotte Athanasidy and Director of Photography Joshua Ben-Dylan, we put together a modern reimagining of Old Hollywood with inspiration from actors like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. The eclectic musical arrangement goes hand in hand with the visuals, and I am so excited this idea that was once in my head is now out in the world for everyone to see. For me, this is a full circle moment because I grew up performing in musical theatre productions so this video feels like a tribute to the actors and performances I grew up admiring with my own spin.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As an independent artist, one of the biggest challenges is keeping everything moving at once. On top of writing and recording the music, I also oversee the visuals and artwork, rollout and promotion, and rehearsals and shows. I try to keep things moving with consistency while still being inspired and having fun with it. “Selfish” was a huge milestone for me because I had never crowdfunded before and didn’t know what to expect. Before budgeting for the project, Charlotte Athanasidy and I poured our hearts and soul into the preproduction and getting the story that we wanted for the video. The night before I launched the crowdfunding campaign, I remember not being able to sleep because I really wasn’t sure what to expect from my followers and didn’t know if they would go for it. When the campaign was launched, I was overwhelmed by the support the project was receiving and after a day, we had already reached half of our goal. In retrospect, I’m so happy that I put myself and this project out there. Not only we did meet our crowdfunding goal and were able to make the video we originally sought out, but also it was the first time that I saw my fan base and following show up for me in a big way like that way. It made me feel like Lillimure was a part of a community, and I’m really excited to build upon that going forward.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Aside from “Selfish,” I released a single back in August called “So Far.” Just in time for the 11th hour of summer, “So Far” is the perfect catalyst to a soft girl summer. Written with Sam Everett, “So Far” is a soft r&b instrumentation with a lush vocal arrangement. The first single off an upcoming album, I am so excited to share my upcoming work debuting as a producer. Since my last self-titled album in 2019, I have been working more in the studio behind the console as a producer. As much as I love collaborating with writers and producers, I also really enjoy having the agency as an artist to get the music exactly as I envision it. Having family and friends spread out across the globe, a lot of my upcoming music surrounds the emotions of knowing people and places for a brief period of time. I also recently started a newsletter that is the most direct way to keep up with what I’m doing. Follow the link tree to sign up!
