Today we’d like to introduce you to NyAshia Muata.
Hi NyAshia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up in Atlanta, creativity and fashion, more specifically streetwear, have always been a big part of my upbringing. Focusing on the newest trend or standing in line for the newest Jordan (before it was online raffles only) shaped many of my younger years. I always knew I needed some sort of creative outlet of my own…whether that would be styling others or starting my own line, which brought me to start Ravish Streetwear. Ravish Streetwear is the Streetwear line for everyone. Right now, we have a few colors in our signature “Skull Hoodie” but hope to branch out to shirt, sweats, and other products in the near future.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not been anywhere near smooth…it honestly hasn’t gotten to a clear path yet, but I am getting there. I got into creative funks multiple times because hoodies weren’t selling like I had hoped. Though we still don’t have a huge customer base, I am grateful for the support we have gotten thus far. Support ranging from actually purchasing or just reposting on social media.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As I am creative, I specialize in many things. I am a singer, dancer, and actress…an around creative to say the least. Aside from the classes I teach, my accomplishment that I am most proud of would have to be my streetwear line. I have always wanted to dabble in the fashion and this was the perfect way for me to bring my dream into fruition. What sets Ravish apart from the others would be that it is original to my vision. No one can have your vision, no matter how similar they may try to be. What you want for yourself and your brand is completely original to you, no one can be you.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I wouldn’t say that I listen or use any apps to inspire me creatively, I usually gain inspiration from my surroundings. One podcast that I do often times find myself listening to “Sistas Who Kill” podcast, which focuses on the true crime stories of African American murderess and victims. I listen to it while I drive, while I create or whenever I’m bored. I’m obsessed with true crime at the moment and most time, you don’t hear about women serial killers or murderers, especially not black ones.
