Today we’d like to introduce you to Reginald James.
Hi Reginald, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out rapping around the age of 13. I would get together with some of my friends and we would freestyle and create songs. Life kind of happened and I backed away from it for a while, but I couldn’t leave music alone. As I began to approach my 20s, I began to get back into rapping again because I started to miss it, I had to live a little. I invested in my own studio equipment so I could record when I wanted to. Doing the COVID era, I taught myself how to make beats and studied the art of mixing and mastering. However, I also started my own business doing that time: Innovative Mindz Production. At this moment I’m working with Hitsonfye DJ’s and the GoldenMoneyTeam marketing, they supported me when no one else was. I just have so much gratitude for the opportunities and I know my dedication, consistency, and determination will pay off.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Trying to make it in the music industry from the ground up is not easy at all. The struggles of funding music and getting heard is challenging. I am very hard on myself and want to make the best music. I felt like giving up because I haven’t got a return on all my investments, but the passion and love I have for the art won’t let me. I know I will reap the seeds that has been sowed. I’m starting to see things take a shift and at the same time, I will treat that like a new beginning. The passion, love, and determination I have for the craft will continue to help me overcome all the obstacles on the path to greatness.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m the CEO, Artist, and producer of Innovative Mindz Production (R James). I don’t really know what I specialize in because I have my hands on every aspect of the craft. However, I’m a big fan of lyrics. I think I’m known for being myself and taking an abstract approach to the arts. I’m proud of all the accomplishments as far as marketing, creating my own beats, and learning how to mix and master tracks. What I believe sets me apart from others is the drive and determination I have. I also stand on what I believe even if everyone around don’t; at the same time, I use the criticism to motivate and sharpen my craft. I’m not a complacent individual and I’m always willing to learn.
Any big plans?
I plan on making a name for myself in the music industry so that will open up different ventures outside of the music. A lot of individuals tend to support you when you make a name for yourself, and the ones looked down upon will be the person they look up to. I really wouldn’t mind giving acting a shot. I’ve also thought about getting into the transportation business, agriculture, and real estate. With that in mind, I will do what I can to help and uplift our community.
