Today we’d like to introduce you to Shawn Ray Cartel.
Hi Shawn Ray, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Canton, Ohio. I’ve always been into singing, dancing, acting and performing since I was a child. My journey began in high school when I joined the Arts Academy, studying Music Theory & Acting Techniques. I continued my journey in music openings for acts like Avant, Cassidy, Freeway, Beanie Siegel, Bone Thugs, Ryan Leslie, and many more. While working hard on music and expanding my brand, I was in Brooklyn visiting my cousin Ray Coleman for a Power105 showcase I was performing in and he said to me, “yo I know you went to school for acting too why don’t you start trying that put that talent to use, you have a look”. I thought on it and took a trip to Atlanta to do my first acting booking on BET Tales created by Irv Gotti, it was featured background but that got me hooked on the acting bug. A year later I ended up moving to Atlanta from Ohio to be a full-time actor and chase my career. I went through a little bit of a rough period when I first got to Atlanta but my resume continued to expand as I received booking after booking.
I soon started landing multiple featured roles and my face value started to go up in this industry, working on LoveCraft Country, Suicide Squad 2, Thunder Force, Point Blank, BMF series and The Game(Reboot). I’m currently working with Kim Perez at XXl Century Entertainment to help move my career to the next phase, I’m also working on an Independent film Called Vanity Vixens where I playing the lead actor Assante Lomax along with getting booked for the New Benny Tha Butcher movie Kings & Pawns as his Co-Star. I do a lot of volunteer work also with my Manager Cathi Easterling such as feeding the homeless in Atlanta and back-to-school giveaways with Summer Safe Atlanta. We are also opening a Remedy Salon Suites in Jonesboro with Mychel “Snoop” Dillard who is a big supporter of my career along with my manager, she’s one of the Co-Owners of The Escobar Franchises with Rapper 2Chainz. I am truly blessed and looking forward to more to come. Keep your eyes out for me as Mr. Panda in the new Guardians of The Galaxy Vol3. I also want to thank my Mom for pushing me and supporting my dreams along with my Grandmother RIP and Frank Stermer RIP for always loving and supporting me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I had a time period where I was living in a hotel for a year in Atlanta and when I was in my early twenties I had a month where I was homeless when I stayed in Pittsburgh, PA for a while.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an entertainer, I’m mostly known for my Acting. I’m a singer-songwriter, Actor, Model, and business owner. One of my most proudest moments was the birth of my Daughter. I’d have to say what sets me apart from the rest is my drive and humbleness.
What’s next?
I plan on opening my Remedy Salon Suites in January/February and opening a couple more up in other states while continuing my career as an Actor.
