Today we’d like to introduce you to Aamirah Khafre.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Aamirah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am a North Philadelphia native currently living and studying interdisciplinary fine art in the Bay Area at California College of the Arts. Where I was offered a full ride scholarship that opened my eyes to a reality of access to higher education. The shift of leaving my hometown and being a college student has continued to motivate me and dismantle my limited perspective of possibilities. Starting my journey of awareness, understanding the vastness of perspective and process. Leading me into my start of entrepreneurship, knowing I’ve always wanted to work for myself as a creative. While working a screen-printing internship back home I found clarity to combine my passion of art, education, community, and income.
POSED PERCEPTION became my tool for financial liberation. The ideas/conversations of POSED PERCEPTIONS values keep coming within my individual development and artistic tools. Allowing me to bring access to these developmental tools to my many groups of community that doesn’t have access to the languages needed to invest in a better self.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Every journey of great fruition is always a roller coaster, personal and shared. The act of trusting my ideas & the process is a new practice for me. So, I’ve struggled with sharing these ideas and outcomes for the brand. Which is the thing POSED PERCEPTION is constantly teaching and reminding to dismantle in my mind. The shift of habit has been a struggle but 100% rewarding. Making the practice of identifying and understanding my perspective/thinking less anxious in its need for change. Providing the process of new ideas more of an excitement to approach, complete and gift.
We’d love to hear more about the business.
POSED PERCEPTION is a design intervention to provoke conversations of reflection and discovery within the individual. Presented in wearables, artworks, conversation collaborative projects and community events. Providing arousal of curiosity within perception and sensation. Offered in text and visual metaphors that create takeaways of understanding self-deeper. Which influences approach for all perspectives, with a voice of respect and embrace to challenge and enlighten the familiar. Building unity within the community. Building humility in every individual to dismantle the segregation of accessibility in classification and amplify community practice for a greater whole.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’ll give thanks to my higher power, family and hometown for such a solid foundation. Special self-deeper thank you to Hassanah Allen, Kwynasia Young, Assad Khafre, and Nadeena Granville for all of the love, support and reassurance in every step of the way of my personal and entrepreneurial journey. All of these relationships have given me a priceless contribution to this project.
