Meet Adrienne Graves of Adrienne Louise Photography in Woodstock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Graves.

Adrienne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Photography has always been something I loved. I’ve loved capturing moments and people for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid and all the way through high school, you could find me capturing family, friends, pets, landscapes, and just about everything I could find! I even won a few ribbons in the county fair.

Somewhere after college life started changing, and I just didn’t pick the camera up as much anymore. The birth of my son in 2015 made me pick it back up again. I had to start from scratch it seemed, and learn all the new techniques, but I had the most perfect subject to work with. This really re-ignited my passion for photography and made me want to share it with the world.

I quickly learned that just like I loved capturing my newborn son, and our growing family, I wanted to create beautiful images for other growing families as well. Which is how I started Adrienne Louise Photography!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all. Like I said I had to start from scratch learning how to use my camera again. I also had to start from scratch in learning how to run a profitable business, all while still managing my full-time job, and being a mom. Another struggle, one I still occasionally struggle with, was learning to embrace what I loved about photography, embrace my style, and use my voice when putting my work out for the world to see, and not compare myself to others. In the world of social media, and the constant highlight we scroll through on a daily basis, it can be hard to not get caught in the comparison trap. Whether it’s comparing my style to someone else’s, or wondering why someone seems to be booking more clients than me. I have to constantly remind myself to not get caught up, but to use that energy to make something in my work or business better.

Adrienne Louise Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Family photography is my jam! I love authentically capturing the connections, and joy each family who comes to me has to offer. My sessions are laid back and meant to be fun. Every family wants at least one of those shots with everyone posed and looking at the camera, so I try to capture that, but the sweet spot for me is the moments in between. The moments where I capture toddlers playing, kids laughing at dad’s jokes, and babies embracing their mama’s. I photograph families either on location in our beautiful city or in the comfort of their own home. It’s just whatever fits their personality.

One of my favorite offerings is Fresh 48 Newborn photography where I come to the hospital, or place of birth, within 48 hours of birth to capture the first moments with your new baby. These sessions are very special because you have so much going on in those short first two days, but you don’t want to forget any of it. I especially love when I get to capture big brother/sister meeting their baby for the first time.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Happiness. For me finding joy in my work, and making my clients happy is what drives my business.
