Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Havill Todd.
Allison, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my business 19 years ago after leaving a corporate job. I was working out of an upstairs bedroom of my home and handling all aspects of the business on my own.
Today, we are a 5-person firm working out of a 2000 sf design studio in an upscale business park in Alpharetta. While the business has grown, I still remain well grounded.
In my personal life, I am a dog lover (I have 3 rescue dogs: 2 German shepherds and 1 golden retriever). I also casually compete in Ironman 70.3 triathlons, so it is not uncommon to find me in cycling gear, running shoes or a wetsuit on any given day!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course there have been challenges! I have always been more solution-oriented than problem-oriented. If an unexpected obstacle or challenge arises, I look for ways to move through it and learn from it.
After almost 10 years in business, we were certainly affected by the recession during the downturn of the housing and real estate market in this area. But, we survived and came out even better on the back side.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the AHT Interiors story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a full-service, turn-key upscale residential interior design firm. We do best when working on whole homes or whole areas of a home. There are a couple of things that set us apart: I have really built the business on a structure of systems and processes that we use on each project. This keeps things consistent and the flow of business manageable while minimizing errors and being efficient with our time. I have a strong background in business, and this has helped me to run my company in a very organized manner. We pride ourselves on delivering on our promises on time, on budget and exceeding our clients’ expectations.
We listen more than we talk when meeting with our clients and don’t impart our personal style or taste on their project.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t really believe in “luck” per se. I think you get what you expect. If you think negatively, you tend to attract negative circumstances. If you focus on being happy, having fun and being the best you can. you tend to attract the same. How does the saying go…… “you get what you think about all day long.”
