Meet Akai Marje

Today we’d like to introduce you to Akai Marje.

Akai, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
From the age of two up until now, I’ve been singing and I plan to do it until I die. I’ve been modeling since I was five years old but stopped for a while then started back freelancing when I was 15. I released my first cover on SoundCloud two years ago then after a few covers dropped, I put out my first original song a couple of months later!  Those SoundCloud songs opened so many doors for me. I performed at my first festival and met so many like-minded people, which resulted in me having about 13 performances from 2018 to now. I’m the face of a 32 foot mural in Chicago. I was also written upon Voyage Miami last year! As far as modeling goes… I was the centerfold artist in the Void Magazine arts & music issue, I won the Jacksonville magazine fashion project in October of 2019 and i was recently published in the 2nd issue of RadxMag. I hope to keep expanding this list with more major accomplishments as the year goes on! On February 28th, 2020 I released my first single of the year titled ‘Cant Buy Love— which is on all platforms. I plan to keep chasing my dreams and reach major success within the next few years. All the opportunities I’ve earned have been so beneficial, as well as the support I’ve been getting  which I truly love and am grateful for!

Has it been a smooth road?
So far, so good! I haven’t had any major struggles throughout my journey.

Please tell us about your work.
My business is me! I am my brand and I try to make my image the best it can be. I represent my self well but being that I’m only 17 (18 by the time this comes out), it can get hard balancing professionalism with wanting to be a teenager. Overall I’m very proud of myself and what I’ve accomplished so far.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the music & modeling industry becoming more inclusive and appreciative of everyone regardless of race, shape, gender, etc. I don’t think that inclusion in the modeling industry will rely upon conventional and European beauty standards as it does now and as for music, I believe that all the barriers will be broken. Music genres are becoming very experimental and vast now but it isn’t all widely accepted. In 5-10 years from now, everything will incorporate well, everything! The growth will be so beautiful and I can’t wait to see it.
