Meet Alaceia Prince

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alaceia Prince.

Alaceia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, I loved to read and loved to lead. I was in the 5th grade when I had one of the most remarkable and mind shaping experiences. I had won the school spelling bee and the feeling of excelling at something I had a passion for took over me and I knew I would never be fully content in life unless I was doing things that made me happy. Reading was my escape. It was a place to use my imagination. Whatever I interpreted from a book was based on where my imagination and creativity took me. I wanted to share in that and express my creativity with others who shared in the joy of reading and I knew even as a child, I would be a writer.

As I grew older, I explored urban fiction and that became my favorite. I would get lost in them because every one of those fiction stories I could identify with in some way being that I grew up in one of the rougher places in Savannah and was exposed to a lot of life’s harsh realities. I used a combination of life’s rewards and disappointments to push me to write and publish my first Urban Fiction story Missing Loyalties and it’s the first installment of the series. Becoming an author is the highlight of my life and it allows me to show my six children that you can truly do anything you want in life if you’re determined and you believe in yourself.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Becoming an author in which I feel is one of the best versions of myself was definitely a struggle. The odds were not in my favor, statistically. I didn’t complete high school. I obtained my GED and I was also a teenage mother. Trying to take care of my responsibilities as a single parent of one with limited resources as well as just dealing with life issues Caused me to put my aspirations and dreams to the side for a very long time. Aside from that negativity, rejection, and fear played a big part as to why I waited so long to become an author when I knew what I wanted all along. It wasn’t until I made the decision to truly change the narrative in my own life that I overcame those obstacles! I am now happily married. With six amazing children, five sons and a daughter who inspires me everyday to reach for the stars and one day, I will become one. I feel there will always be obstacles at every level in life no matter who you are but the best part about being an author is you decide how the story ends.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a self-published author but I am not limited to just urban fiction. I am currently working on different genres of literature, including a book that highlights life as a mom, wife and entrepreneur. What makes me unique or what sets me apart is that I am an advocate for women empowerment. I love seeing women crush their goals when the odds are stacked against them and as my readers take this life journey with me, I think they will, in one way or another identify with something relevant in their own life and be inspired to make a change or follow their dreams. Through my work through my life story, I want to be an inspiration to other women. That will forever be my goal in life to help someone else along the way!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very headstrong. I was also the oldest of my mother’s four children, so I always had a leadership personality. I taught myself how to survive and adapt early due to my environment. I was very mature and self-sufficient early. I was a small ball of fire and super energetic and I because I loved to read, it was easy to educate myself. I was very outspoken and passionate about what I believed in and enjoyed meeting people and making new friends.
