Today we’d like to introduce you to Alaina Martin.
Hi Alaina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started Alaina’s Collection in 2019. I wanted simple but high-quality skincare products with ingredients that I could pronounce, so I decided to make my own. I love being an entrepreneur. It allows me to spend more time with my son Luca who just turned three. I am also showing him how to start and maintain a business.
I graduated recently from HBCU Drake State in the esthetics program, and I am now a licensed and insured esthetician. I just recently opened my own Spa in Huntsville, Alabama so definitely come by and get pampered! I have plans to complete the instructor program in the next couple of years. I want to be able to apprentice my little cousin Iriah (creator of Carrot Explosion soap bar) who is interested in becoming a beauty professional. I also give back by helping other beauty professionals with finding opportunities they may not know about.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am a black queer woman, and being a triple if not more minority has been difficult when it comes to starting and maintaining a business. I have always been interested in business ever since I can remember, but I did not have any real entrepreneur mentors growing up. Most of the lessons I have learned are basic business knowledge but when you don’t have a mentor or someone to advise you starting out you waste a lot of time and money learning on your own.
My journey to becoming an entrepreneur has shaped me into wanting to become a mentor to others in the beauty industry and young girls! I want to show others funding opportunities, online branding, content creation, and more! I have been mentoring my younger cousin Iriah who is also a partner of Alaina’s Collection which is a family business.

I am a recent graduate of HBCU Drake State and I am one of the few licensed black estheticians in Huntsville, Alabama! I am excited to start my journey where I offer corrective skincare, waxing, and lashing. Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Traveling with my family, I love having new experiences. I watch shows like HGTV where they travel and it’s really cool to see how different places in the world are, and then I want to go! I want to go to Canada next; it’s been on my goal list!
