Meet Alan Peterson of My Chef Alan in Marietta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alan Peterson.

Alan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After retiring from corporate life, I was looking for a venue to utilize my passion for cooking. I knew I did not want to become a restaurant line chef so I settled on becoming a Personal Chef. I investigated the opportunities and ultimately joined the United states Personal Chef Association. I attended their business academy and then launched my business. I could not be happier with this direction my life has taken. Now, after 6 years into this endeavor, I stay busy with classes, demos and private dinner parties. I’ve met some great people along the way and look forward to doing this for the foreseeable future.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been incredibly smooth. Although slow at first and with few hiccups initially, I can say the business has progressed quite well.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the My Chef Alan story. Tell us more about the business.
I love people. The demos, classes and private dinner parties are a blast. The human interaction gets me going. Most of my work is private dinner parties and I welcome the hosts and guests to hang out with me and even participate in the food preparation activities if they want.

I work with clients to design a menu, get a contract signed, do all the shopping for food and prepare the food in the client’s home using all my own gear. I then clean up and depart.

Customer satisfaction is my mantra and I work hard to provide my clients with a great experience.

The ratings in different media and customer feedback attests to how happy my clients are with what I do.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
For sure the industry is changing… With new startup companies providing packaged meals where the clients order the food, accept delivery and prepare the food themselves is changing the landscape. In addition I expect to see the Uber model being applied to chefs if nothing more than to test the waters to see if this model could work. For me, I’m confident that clients who entertain in their homes will continue using personal chefs to handle to food preparation activities allowing them to be able to entertain their guests.
