Meet Alana Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alana Green.

Alana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was nominated to be featured as an Inspiring Story for VoyageATL by my dear friend Portia. I have always been the type of person who feels good when making others feel good about themselves and their circumstances. I have been a caretaker all my life but I started being purposeful about encouraging others in high school when I began sending out daily morning messages that I referred to as “Green Morning Messages”. Those messages gave me the space to be creative, write, and motivate all at once. The desire to utilize all three is what led to me creating my blog. Through my site, I share inspirational stories from my life, prayers, faith content, and spearhead drives and fundraisers to help the community. My ultimate goal for HeyMsGreen.com is to continue reaching individuals and groups of different socioeconomic classes, from various ethnic and religious backgrounds to motivate them to be their best self while also giving back consistently to those in need. It is important to me to use the gifts God gave me to improve other people’s moments, days and hopefully lives.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The main struggle I’ve had is matching where I currently am with my vision for all I want to do. I ultimately want to open my own community centers so that I can provide a safe space for children and adults to come to breathe easy, relax, and get the things they need to be who they aspire to be. When I want to do something like pack blessing bags for the homeless, provide school supplies for teachers and students, etc. I get really discouraged about not having the means to just outright make it happen the way I want to but it is important for me to remember that the day when I can will come and in the meantime, it is important to utilize the blessing of community support. There are so many people that support my initiatives and I am truly so grateful for them. Their support helps to take some of the bumps out of the road.

HeyMsGreen.com – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I have had people compare what I do and what I want to do to Sprinkle of Jesus and although I think what they’re doing is great, there are distinct differences. Although I have a strong relationship with God, I understand that there are over one hundred religions, meaning, everyone’s God isn’t the same as mine and to me, that is absolutely okay. I prefer to focus on encouraging people and praying for people in a way that transcends across religious borders. I encourage believers as often as I encourage non-believers. I write for whoever can relate. I pride myself on my ability to resonate with so many different types of people, to me, that is important. Helping people feel like they can accomplish their goals, filling them with positive energy, revamping their spirit; those things matter. My goal is to continue spreading inspiration and motivation through my writing, public speaking and serving under-served groups and communities.

I look forward to opportunities to make this happen on a larger scale through collaborations with individuals, groups, and business with similar interests and missions.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
You should have saw the look on my face reading this. I tend to struggle with being proud of what has been done because I’m focusing on what can be done next. When I stop to think about it, the proudest moments of HeyMsGreen.com have been every single message and conversation about how what I wrote helped someone: helped them face past trauma, helped them make the decision to pursue a goal, reminded them that they aren’t alone, etc. Beyond those responses, I am proud to have gone to events to be the speaker about topics such as mental health and domestic violence. I am proud of the drives and fundraisers I have created and managed as well.
