Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Wyatt.
Alicia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When YouTube started becoming popular I would watch the Makeup Videos. I thought it was cool and pretty. So I decided to play in makeup for myself and try some of the looks that I have seen. Once I started, what I felt was, perfecting all of the steps in Makeup, I had to apply strip lashes left to learn. I said this is my last time trying to put these lashes on and if it doesn’t work I’m done with trying. I got in a mirror close and it instantly clicked. I Popped them right on! A few days later, someone was looking for someone to do her makeup and since I didn’t have a job at the time, I told her I could do them. That night I ended up doing her Lashes & Eye Makeup and it GREW from there! I didn’t expect to be a Makeup Artist even when I was doing it but I love it!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has its moments when it gets quite bumpy. Being an entrepreneur it’s not easy with trying to build from nothing to what you feel is something. Coping with going from traveling to clients to working in a salon was not easy for me. Especially, when you are building clients in the area. Sometimes it could be Financially inconsistent due to the peak and down seasons.
Please tell us about your business.
Monta’s Makeup Artistry has been doing Makeup for a few years now! We specialize in Natural Makeup with a touch of Glam. We do Bridal Makeup, Prom/Senior Events Makeup & Special Event Makeup! We also host Group & One on One Makeup Classes. I am most proud that my business is growing and will soon be adding Esthetic services such as facials, waxing and more! What sets us apart is that We are Professional and Give meaningful service to our clients for an enhanced and customized beauty experience!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
To be honest, I think getting back up when I feel I have failed and applying those lessons to my life and business. I also think to have and showing people love also helped me successful. This industry is very cutthroat but I believe that you don’t have to put out someone else’s light to shine or vice versa.
