Today we’d like to introduce you to Almalik El-Amin, Nick Shepherd, Jordan Makin, Mikey Banks and Kyle Dobbs.
So, before we jump into specific questions about your band, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, basically all started off doing separate things. The lead singer (Malik) one day got tired of being solo, so he started looking for guitar players. Next thing you know, Malik got introduced to nick. Nick was also looking for a singer to jam out on his rifts. They played together and it was a perfect match. Nick ends up calling his boy Kyle (aka KD bass player) and he comes over to jam and it’s beautiful. Now, all we are missing is a drummer. Malik called a high school buddy who he hardly talked to but was also in another band already. Mikey (drummer) came to the next practice and it was like heaven in the jam room. Still, one piece missing, although, down the road, Jordan added some crazy energy and charisma to the band. This is how El-Amin started. Now a year later and we are rocking out everywhere we go!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We’ve dealt band changes. We feel every band deals with that. People grow apart. The biggest struggle for us is probably COVID! We had so many shows lined up this year and COVID smacked us in the face. No road is smooth when you’re chasing a dream.
We’d love to hear more about your band.
People ask us all the time whats our genre of music and we can’t really answer. We have a wide variety of genres that we play. Mostly reggae rock and funk, though. We specialize in moving the crowd, bringing peace, but also helping lives. We donate in the community and help out as much as possible. We performed at the very first Juneteenth festival in Villa Rica, GA. We’ve made contributions to the lupus foundation, and we’ve also helped several teachers during this time. The thing we’re most proud of is being different from others and using our platform to make the world a better place.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Ambition, stability, and dedication are the most important. Also, we treat each other like we’re brothers. We hold each other accountable, and when one is down, we lift them up. When we are all in good spirits, we make magic, so we try to stay in good spirits. We also know that with COVID, it’s hard to plan the future. Our goal is to change the world and make it peaceful. Yeah, that sounds cliche, but we’re not in it for money. We know that if we didn’t take off five years down the road, we would still have the same goal whether that’s being known locally or international! The goal is to be known all around the world!
