Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Barrett.
Alyssa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I recently started my business in July of 2019. I have always wanted my own business and it’s something I knew I was destined to do. I always have been someone who wanted to be successful. I felt as if life it’s self is deeper than we understand. This made me gravitate towards my own goals and aspirations instead of friends and parties like other teenagers. I wanted to make a difference so I looked at what I liked and what I was good at. I have always loved self skincare, makeup, natural remedies, etc. I started to add to the knowledge I already had on these things and research more on ingredients, etc. I then made formulas and tested them it took a few tries but it worked. Everything worked, I perfected my formulas so I said now they are worthy enough to sell. I then did so much research on how to start my business months later I made my website, took product pictures, uploaded them and I made myself an Instagram for my brand. I then started to receive orders and I’m still adding new products to my brand/site every day.
Has it been a smooth road?
As I stated before, one of my struggles was the formulas. I wanted to be different I wanted it to work so I had to do research and come up with something. Also, the logo and website making was not a struggle but it was hard to decide, I didn’t want to have to go through rebranding later on. I can overcome anything so those things were more like speed bumps.

What makes So Real Cosmetics different from other brands is that it is a vegan and cruelty-free brand. I also do so much testing in formulas I have something for everyone. I specialize in Skincare, Makeup, and body care. These next few months, I will also be adding things like accessories.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Hard work is the key to success. If you want something bad enough, you won’t stop UNTIL you get it. You have to want it bad enough, you can’t just hop on something because it is a trend or because it works for others. Be original and be you, that is how you will win.
