Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Garrett.
Alyssa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up, we all have ideas of what the “perfect” life would look like, for me, I always wanted to be that “businesswoman.” I was going to be in California selling high-end real estate and just living the life. Well, fast forward to my first year at Georgia State University (GO PANTHERS), I’m a double major; Finance and Real Estate and my dream of selling high-end real estate didn’t seem possible considering that we were going to experience a recession and a housing decline like no other during my undergrad. Plus, internships that I had landed in real estate was being cancelled due to the economy.
So, I graduated and entered corporate America. Over the next ten years, I worked for some of the top companies but I wasn’t completely satisfied, The corporate structure offered an excellent salary, great benefits but it was missing something. Besides, having to ask if I could take off work or being limited to a certain number of sick/vacation days just didn’t sit right with me lol.
So after, I purchased my 1st home and seeing how much I enjoyed that process. I decided it was time. I started researching different brokerages, meeting with brokers and prepared for the exam! I passed that real estate exam on the first attempt and I was beyond proud and I was ready to embark on a new career! My first transaction was a $400,000 property and set the tone for future transactions to follow. Earning top producer awards in my brokerage.
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t think anyone gets into Real Estate with the mindset of – this will be easy or everything will go smooth! If you do, Good Luck! LOL just by nature of the industry there’s going to be some up’s and down’s and hurdles you have to jump through. From gaining confidence in self to not be afraid or timid when networking or prospecting, building a team of trusted partners – having a good lender can be a lifesaver at times!!! So, it’s been as smooth as I’ve made it.
I learned not to count a deal until it closes because there’s so much of the process I can’t control. I learned to approach each deal with an open mind. I’ve done my due diligence in learning about different loan programs, interviewing my clients, and I’m continuing to build lasting relationships and have created systems that work for my business. Of course, there are “growing pains” and mistakes that will be made but I focus on the lessons they teach so that I can be better for future clients.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Alyssa Garrett & Associates is part of the Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers family. A brokerage that’s been a household name for over 40 years. I specialize in assisting 1st time home buyers and in new construction properties. As a company, I’m most proud of our diverse background and pledge that we are in business for ourselves but not by ourselves. Alyssa Garrett & Associates, the brand is most proud of being able to bridge the gap for many to become homeowners through education & being able to create custom home buying or selling plans for each individual client. Being able to connect with my clients is something that certainly sets me apart from others. I am able to meet my clients where they are; rather, that’s looking casually looking and have no clue where to begin or being able to assist my more experienced buyer and seller’s.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Hands down, ATLANTA is the best! Rich in history, diversity and just full of opportunities. I love the fact that it’s not uncommon to run into a “Who’s Who” in various industries leading to lots of chances for networking and I love the feeling you get while riding in the summer in the city.
Now, the city needs to get these potholes fixed!
