Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Morais.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Amanda. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
At first it was just a girl’s play, lipsticks, blushes… but when I was 14, I got my first brushes and from that moment I fell in love with the world of makeup, the collection was growing, eyeliners, palettes of shadows, but it was still just a hobby, my favorite fun at home… but by an incredible coincidence of fate, one of the greatest makeup artists in Brazil became a partner and best friend of my mother who is a stylist and started to encourage me, gave me tips and put the first professional brushes in my hands, I felt like a doctor and his scalpel with an immense responsibility to transform and touch not only the face but the lives of people. This friend taught me a lot and gave me an opportunity to show that I was capable, and from that moment my hobby, my passion became something real.
At the time, I started helping my mother in the company at the opposite time to school, I advised the brides in choosing the dress, gave makeup tips and with this broader vision, I also began to compose the ideas of hairstyles that could harmonize the look for the great day. I started to be more active in this area, but informally as a freelancer of our great friend, it was when the opportunity to study in the USA arose and I glimpsed the chance to know the most famous brands and the backstage of the great events… no, I thought twice I took a deep breath, I took courage, and decided to follow my heart, I moved to the USA, alone in search of my dream, and here, arose incredible opportunities to increase my knowledge through courses with the so dreamed marks and with only two months living here, I went to a course in New York with a renowned makeup artist in Brazil, on my return, I had my first customer in the USA who soon after the wedding indicated me to another friend, and another… a few months later, a second opportunity appeared, and I learned from my mother that knowledge is never too much, then I returned to NY for another course, this time of immersion for one week with the best makeup brands in the world. This second course opened my eyes as well as some doors and as soon as I returned, I already had two more weddings scheduled to do hair and makeup. I came to live a moment of great professional euphoria, it was when I learned of a great event geared toward brides and festivities in Atlanta, at that time, I saw an opportunity to expose my work in a more professional way, and with the support of my family, my mother who has always been a super businesswoman, an inspiring woman who has always taught me not to be afraid, decided to participate, invested all my savings to set up my stand, and the event was a success, many brides strolling and stopping in my space to watch me making up, it was a dream come true, my first event… I know I still have a lot to learn because I believe in the realization of dreams and I know that this is only the first of many steps!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Moving to another country, far from my family and friends.
