Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Oraefo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Amy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I moved to Atlanta (by way of Raleigh, NC) during the recession, I did not have plans to start my own law practice. The job market was very shaky so new hires were not exactly on the radar for many companies and brands. When faced with this scenario, I knew that I had to make a critical decision – attempt to wait until the economy stabilized or step out on faith and pursue the journey of entrepreneurship… I chose the latter.
I was determined that if I was going to start building from the ground up, then I was going to build a brand that reflected my personality – an atmosphere of innovation where I would empower other entrepreneurs, creatives, and content creators. As a new transplant in Atlanta, I did not have any relationships in the city so I had to pound the pavement and really let people know that I was here and serious about building my brand.
The journey was not always easy – I made countless sacrifices and took many risks. I remained confident and determined to succeed because I knew that through every struggle, I was doing what I was called to do – educate and empower others. While growing my brand, I have remained intentional about honing my skill set, focusing on my areas of expertise, serving as a resource to others, and informing people about the exact services I provide – entertainment, intellectual property, and corporate law.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When starting my firm, I did not realize how difficult it is to build a book of business within your industry. I often had to exercise humility, make financial investments to assist in growing my brand, and even work for free to gain expertise and build relationships with various industry professionals.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Amy Oraefo, P.C. – A Boutique Law Firm – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
As Owner and Managing Attorney of Amy Oraefo, P.C., I serve as legal counsel for new and established businesses, independent musicians, producers, songwriters, entrepreneurs, and content creators. In addition to serving as counsel for a variety of business and entertainment law matters, I also file and maintain federal trademark and copyright applications for my clients.
Additionally, I draft, review, negotiate, and advise clients on various agreements; including, but not limited to: recording agreements, publishing agreements, licensing agreements, management agreements, producer agreements, talent option agreements, and consulting agreements. I also provide business strategy consulting services for individuals and companies to assist them in growing and protecting their brands.
I have a passion for community service and a desire to encourage and motivate individuals to pursue their dreams. I am a creative who just happens to be an attorney, so I bring a level of creative energy to every matter that I am handling on behalf of my clients.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am looking forward to scaling and growing my brand and exposing my clients to international opportunities. My family is originally from Nigeria so I have always had a global perspective in doing business and I often encourage my clients and colleagues to approach every scenario and opportunity with an international perspective, if possible.
