Meet Amya Meekins of Amya Roxxstar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amya Meekins.

Amya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in South New Jersey in a single-parent home with my mom. Its always been my mom and I since I could remember so we share a strong bond that continues to grow stronger as I grow my faith. Being the only child could be lonely, but that didn’t last for long. My mom and I have always had a compassion for people. One day she came home and asked me, “Do you want brothers?”.

Of course, I said yes having brothers would be cool plus I could have somebody to play with. So later on a set of brothers got adopted into my family and became my big brothers. Alongside adjusting to that drastic change, I was dealing with bullying at school for my skin complexion. My particular complexion wasn’t as common amongst my classmates so jokes were always made. Throughout those challenges, I’m developing a career as a dancer and on a dance team created by my mother. It started out with my brothers and a few other kids from the neighborhood. Then, it started to grow rapidly. It changed those kids lives while preparing me for mine. As a young kid growing through puberty, everything was changing. I was transferring over to middle school discovering new things about myself. Throughout middle school, I started my music career professionally. My first music video went viral around my school, which resulted in a lot of teasing. I didn’t capitalize on it, but it was apart of the process I believe.

Eventually, it got physical, which resulted in me transferring into a different school. By time my high school years started, I was now an online school student. It was much better for my music career traveling and constantly have bookings. I completed all of my high school credits within three years allowing me to graduate a year early with a 4.02 GPA in the top 10% of my graduating class. I left high school as the president of the National Honors Society.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course it hasn’t been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t change my process for anything. Losing friends was a major struggle for me when I started and I still struggle with it, but I met some great people that I know is going to last around me for a lifetime. I learn from everyone I encounter, whether its good or bad. The more I deal with people, the more I learn about myself.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I like to identify myself as a creative. Literally a creative because I don’t just do one thing. Everyday I discover more gifts about myself and find more ways to activate them. Starting my career, I’m mostly known for being an artist, mostly a rap artist. Now I have branched out into being a workshop host and an authoress amongst many other things. I am proud of how much using my God-given gifts has impacted people all across the nation. I feel as though I’m set apart from others when I focus on the people and connecting with them.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Over the next 5-10 years, I see myself as a mogul. Definitely relocated, but inspiring kids since my platform would be bigger. I do want to engage more in modeling and etc. so hopefully that’ll work out.
