Today we’d like to introduce you to Angie Castillo Davis.
Angie, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My family migrated from Colombia to South Florida in the late 90’s. I’ve always had a curiosity and fascination with media, television and film. So in 2012, a couple of years after earning my journalism degree at FIU. I relocated to Atlanta after receiving an offer from CNN, where I currently work as a writer and fill-in producer. I write news stories daily that appear on-air and on various CNN platforms. For the past few years, I’ve begun to dive into producing and acting, which has always been a passion. So when I’m not at work at CNN, I am usually doing something related to the indie film industry here in Atlanta.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It wasn’t an easy road to get to where I am. The journey, even before graduation, called for hard work, long hours, at the time… Little pay to no pay and plenty of rejection. I am still pushing to climb higher in my career in media.
Please tell us bout your work.
I created Castle + Sky Media sort of as a way to put a stamp on projects that I’m currently helping to develop as a producer. One is a proof of concept for a romantic comedy called ‘F*BOY FREE,’ a thriller short “Abuelita” and one very dear to my heart, a comedic short film called “The Box,” which follows a young immigrant woman in her journey to “fit in” and assimilate to her new life in America. I am very proud of all these projects and excited to see them come to life this year.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to continuing to climb in my journey as an actor and indie producer. and certainly eager to expand my network and reach new audiences through my work –which I’d like to stress has the ultimate goal to promote, uplift and highlight the voices of underrepresented groups, including Latinos and African Americans.
Im currently acting as the Atlanta ambassador for Latino Filmmakers Network, a Los Angeles-based organization that is making strides and pushing to create opportunities for the Latino community and promoting diversity and inclusion in Hollywood. The group sponsors our monthly New Normal Reading Series – Atlanta, where we do a live reading of scripts by writers of color to showcase their voices.
