Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Kelley.
Anthony, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started DJ-ing back in 2013, one of my friends had a big block party and asked me to DJ. I tried it – got asked to do another party. I kept saying yes and before I knew it – promoter Rod Baynes asked me to come to DJ at the club in Scores and Obsession. DJ Holiday was in Obsessions a few months later – told me I was dope and had me take his number. I followed up and before I knew it – I was cooking wit’ gas.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. My biggest struggle was I was working a 9 to 5 while my DJ-ing was heating up and I couldn’t sleep – I was running back and forth between the two nonstop. I ended up getting fired and I vowed to put everything I had into dj-ing. Success in this is my only option.
Please tell us about your work.
My business is my brand. I am an entertainer. I am known for breaking artists from indies to mainstreams. I now have record labels hire me to break their artists. I’ve been very instrumental in Derez Deshon’s career. I do a mix show at FM station Streetz 94.5. Recently I was able to garner a deal for an artist I work with personally, 1Way Street and breaking his record “Go There”. I am most proud of is how much I’ve grown. Where I’m from – people don’t excel in entertainment. So to see my progress – I’m inspired to keep going and setting more goals for myself.
