Today we’d like to introduce you to April Nicole.
April, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well if I can be frank, it all started because I was a bored housewife and we all know that means … you cook, clean and watch daytime. One day while watching Cake Boss, I jokingly said to myself “I can do that”! I watched it faithfully for about a week then decided to go to the store grab some ingredients and got to baking. After a lot of sunken cakes, bad recipes and patience. I whisked myself to becoming The Cake Madame!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No white picket fence is always truly a perfect life. In addition to healing from divorce I was diagnosed with cancer. Not only was I making cakes from scratch my life was at scratch. Baking was my outlet. It kept my mind off of the feeling that my body betrayed me. The effects of chemo are exactly what you’d depict them to be. I started to feel as though the quality of my pastries were reflecting what I was feeling about myself. It’s ironic that the worst I felt about myself and the quality I was producing, the more I was in demand. Life forced me to be home and rest and I found refugee in baking delectables because with every round of chemo it seemed as though every cake had another tier.

Sw33t Tr3ats is a pastry company and we specialize in sw33ts for any and all occasions. I’m best known for my wedding cakes and dessert tables. My clients tend to love my tablescapes. What makes me the most proud of Sw33t Tr3ats is knowing the work I’ve put in and how we’ve grown in such a short amount of time. Every pastry chef wants the ultimate success but what sets me apart is that despite all my lows, I made it anyway.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I came from a strong family background and my parents have been together 51 years and married for 47. They raised all 6 of us in church and growing up, I was the quiet girl that sang in the choir. However, growing up my heart always had a need for flare and design and now today, I execute that in every sw33t tr3at made.
