Today we’d like to introduce you to April Ramirez.
Hi April, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up dancing ballet. As a young adult, I hurt my back and was unable to continue my dance career. Although I miss it greatly, it gave me the disciple and foundation to strive for success in all avenues I journey into, growing up I always had my hands in some art project whether it was decorating, sketching, or painting, Tattooing was very foreign to me as my family was very religious and did not have any body art. In 2014 at the age of 21, I decided to put what others may think aside and pursue a career as a tattoo artist. I was determined to show my family, friends and myself that I could create a spot in this industry while staying true to myself. For the last eight years, I have been striving to make custom tattoos that my clients can wear proudly. I wanted to create a personal style that stands apart from mainstream tattoo styles. After years in the industry, I have finally opened my very own shop in Flowery Branch GA. It’s so wonderful to look at where I started owning my own business. It’s surreal, I owe it all to my amazing, supportive clients and colleagues.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Opening my first tattoo shop had its challenges. I will only look back on this phase of my journey and reflect on the beauty of the process, but of course, every road had some bumps. Navigating my way through a male-dominated industry, learning the self-discipline and time dedication needed to make it as a custom tattoo artist, and finding my confidence and voice as an individual may have been the most trying and difficult but ultimately lead me to self-confidence and freedom in my art. Though my experience it’s all about how you deal with the struggles because they are inevitable.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a tattoo artist that specializes in color realism, black work, and watercolor. Although I do a plethora of styles, I am known for doing mostly floral imagery. I had a strong desire to stand out! I have worked throughout the years to make my own unique style. I love that my clients get stopped and people ask “did April Showers do that?”I am so honored and proud to have so many wonderful clients that come from all over the United States to get tattooed by me,
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the area because of it is diverse nature. The Atlanta art scene is booming and there are so many amazing artists in the area. Sometimes it’s overwhelming to work in an area with so much talent around, but it keeps my eye on my goal, to produce the best I can for my clients every day.
