Meet Ashton Hammill of Another Year Unknown in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashton Hammill.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashton. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Wish I could say I’ve been doing this my entire life, but I started playing guitar when I was about 7 or 8 for about a year. Turns out life had other plans, and I picked up other hobbies such as skateboarding, surfing, and racing dirt bikes out in San Diego.

Flash forward a few years, and I’ve been working full time in Atlanta in the film industry. I’ve always been behind the camera telling other people’s stories for my job, but music has become a creative release for me and gives me the opportunity to share my stories and viewpoints on life.

Normally I’m a pretty introverted person, but music has helped me join forces with my bandmates to put out music that we truly care about. We’re an indie band, so no one is telling us what we can and cannot write. Music has given me a platform to express my emotions where I feel that I can be heard.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think success is ever a smooth road, but I don’t let that deter me from working towards what I want. A lot of the challenges came when trying to find like-minded individuals who wanted to play sick music together. Once I found my other bandmates, working out a rehearsal schedule that fit all of our lives was another challenge.

We all have such different careers but share the same goals and visions for our band. At times it can be a constant fight on scheduling for rehearsals, but we are all so dedicated and are able to figure out ways to make it work.

Please tell us about Another Year Unknown.
Our band is called Another Year Unknown. We’re a pop punk band based in Atlanta, GA.

Some people think we have a similar sound to Blink 182 and other early 2000’s pop-punk bands, but we’re known for singing about breaking the molds of society. That life is more than just a 9 to 5, and you should always chase your dreams.

Something that sets us apart from others would be our passion to tell our stories and motivation to make this successful and as big we can to make sure our stories are told to the people who need to hear them.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
No! I never question if I would have done something differently. Mistakes or failures are always a path towards success. At times it might seem like doing something differently would have been better, but when you fail you tend to learn from your mistakes.
