Today we’d like to introduce you to Atlanta Pizza Truck.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We bought and customized our truck in Italy in 2019. We started to work full time as a catering business in April 2020 when the city had banned indoor dining because of the pandemic. Our first location was Paolo’s Gelato in Atlanta and after that, we did a couple of neighborhood Pop-Ups in the Tucker area. We haven’t stopped since then!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our truck is one on its kind. It has been difficult to learn how to manage it because there was no previous reference for us. The bigger challenges were to find the spare parts of such a rare vehicle in the US as well as someone willing to repair or even check the truck. Starting with COVID-19 on its peak has been a challenge as well because of all the new measures we had to implement to stay safe both our customers and us.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a local family-owned business that makes woodfire Neapolitan pizza around the city. We have a custom-built Piaggio ApeCar brought from Italy with an oven on top where we cook our pies. The oven reaches 900F and it takes around one minute to get the pizza cooked. Our cheese, tomato and flour is brought from Italy. Our dough and tomato are made from scratch, and we use as well some local companies for our veggies and meats. We do mostly private catering, such as weddings, corporate events, and birthday parties. Even though we focus on pizza, we offer salads, desserts and appetizers in our packages.
We also partner with some local breweries to do public pop-ups some days in the month. You can find our public calendar on Facebook or a link in our Instagram bio. Alessio, our master pizzaiolo, has been making pizzas for over 15 years. When not making pizza for Atlanta Pizza Truck, Alessio is traveling all over the world as a restaurant consultant: Sofia, pizza lover, works in social media and customer service management. She makes sure everything is perfectly organized and all our clients are happy with our services.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I will say we have had the good luck of finding great people to work within our path, but a little bad luck with the weather -it has been a very rainy year and we work outdoors.
