Meet Audrey Fisher of Audrey Rae Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Audrey Fisher.

Audrey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I had been drawn to photography since I was really young, maybe 7 or 8. I wanted to take pictures and look at pictures all the time, so I’d borrow my mom’s canon point-and-shoot and have photoshoots with my dogs or drag the bins of photographs out and sit and sift through them for hours. I think I probably asked for a camera for Christmas every other Christmas, at least throughout my childhood. My parents gifted me with a few cameras and Polaroids throughout the years, but when I was expecting my first child, they got me a beginner DSLR for Christmas.

Once my daughter was born, all I did was take pictures of her. After posting pictures I had taken, I began having people reach out about taking pictures of them or their kids and eventually, I was asked to photograph a wedding. I remember getting that message and almost turning down the opportunity but instead I ran with it and before I even shot that wedding I’d had three more people reach out!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! Finding what sets me apart from others and my own style has been a journey that is ever-evolving. In the beginning, I was shooting any and every wedding, photoshoot, or event that came my way and I was unsure of where I wanted to take my business and what my goals were. I needed direction, whether it was what I wanted my style to look like, the kinds of shoot I wanted to be doing, or who my ideal clients were. I was blindly photographing event after event and shoot after shoot. I inevitably got burnt out and even almost decided photography wasn’t for me. However, as soon as I started to give up, I started getting inquiries that made me excited about my work again. Since then, I’ve honed in on my style, my market, and where I see my business going.

We’ve been impressed with Audrey Rae Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I love this question because this is exactly the question I’ve had to ask myself. I am a photographer but I am, more specifically, a wedding photographer. I shoot mainly weddings- whether they’re big traditional weddings or small intimate elopements. I aim to create wedding photographs that are true-to-color and have an overall timeless feel with a romantic flare to them. I shoot mainly digital but love to throw in some fun film photographs here and there. I value real moments, which I do think sets me apart, and I’ve found that film has a way of capturing those moments so perfectly. I am also venturing into super eight films which will allow me to capture even more moments with that timeless and authentic feel that I love so much. If you’re unsure what a super eight film is, think an old home video shot on film!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To slow down. Whether it’s during a wedding day and things are go, go, go or I’m comparing myself to other photographers and the milestones they’ve met that maybe I haven’t yet. I’ve learned to slow down, be intentional, and know that things take time.
