Meet Ayanna Thomas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayanna Thomas.

Hi Ayanna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For years, I have always enjoyed creating little projects from invitations and flyers to DIY projects for work or home. I never went to school for graphic design or anything, but I do have a love of technology. I pride myself on being able to figure out software to create items. I am self-taught on creating designs that I offer. I initially only created items in my spare time for friends or family. I never once thought to take it seriously because I already had a career. I realized that people outside of my circle began to ask for my assistance once seeing my work that I did for others. When my sister started her photography business, it gave me a different perspective of being an entrepreneur. I helped her with a lot of the marketing and that completely opened my eyes to the possibility of what starting a business looked like. My sister and brother both encouraged me to create a business and we all collaboratively worked together to think of my business name AGT Creations. Four years later, my business is continuing to thrive, and I am evolving to offer more services. AGT Creations slogan is to offer affordable solutions for all your creative needs.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not always, but I think it was more about me making time to do something that I truly love. Time management is a big deal because I can remember when someone would reach out for services. I would drop everything to start on their project because I wanted to be fast and efficient. I had to realize that you have to give yourself time especially when you have more than one customer and you have to set boundaries. Some struggles also may include a lack of knowledge about what it takes to successfully run a business. I’ve done a lot of research and spoke with plenty of small business owners. And with anything, it takes time and you have to learn as you go.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I always put 100% into each design. I provide flyers, t-shirt designs, logos, resumes, business cards, invitations, bookmarks, lawn signs, event signs, and so much more. I like to create things that align with what the customer wants and what I as the designer envisions for their design. I create products that inspire me as well as meet the needs of the customer. I provide quality work, professional customer service, and proficiency in all that I do.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I can honestly say, that I have never been much of a risk taker but starting this business was one of my biggest risks. By deciding to really take my business to the next level was a game-changer for sure. I am glad that I took this risk because it has opened my eyes to so many possibilities on where I’d like to take my business in the future. I can definitely say that risks are important and much like stepping out on faith. I am still reluctant at times to make big decisions, but I am a work in progress. I intend on moving forward with taking more risks when I feel it is necessary. One of my mottos in life is slow and steady wins the race. Even if it takes me a little longer then I know I will eventually get there.
